I'm not so crazy about the look of the Tundra after 2006 and the fuel mileage of the 5.7 is crap.

OP, don't listen to all the horse shit on here about getting a bigger truck. A V6 tacoma (with tow package) will tow a 5000 lb trailer with absolutely no problem. Upgrade the rear springs to better handle tongue and payload would be all i'd do. My TT is the same weight as yours will be and I haul it all over hells half acre.

OP if you're going to be in the mountains a lot then I take back what I said about not needing a bigger truck. Mountains are a whole different kettle of fish.

I do plan on visiting the mountains but not solely. I may go on a long trip somewhere.

Do you thing any trip to the mountains would rule out the v6 Taco ?

Here in Ontario we have fairly flat land with some hills for sure. I just got back from Killarney On. with my TT and for the most part on moderate hills it stayed in 4th gear. I did however get off the main highway to go see my Aunt in Orillia and whilst on a back road came upon a hill which forced me to go to second gear to get to the top. I thought for a minute I was in Virginia! If I had hills like that regularly, I'd want a V8.

Yeah, South Carolina is pretty flat. I'm pretty sure I'll be traveling to N.C., V.A. and such.

There are mountains in Killarney but no major roads go up them.

Well I did sell my 5 lug for $15K, word of mouth got out to the buyer. He smoked it over, drove it and said he'd take it. I asked that if he would give me a few weeks to find a replacement, it was his and I would not advertise it or sell it from under him and he agreed. I looked at a lot of turds, one flood truck and some that had been in multiple wrecks and auctions. He said he would like to make the purchase this past Saturday and I was no closer than when I started looking. Then last Wednesday The Lord lined all the ducks up for me like he always does and put one in my lap. We went back and forth on the price and when I set the keys on his desk and turned to walk out, he talked to the manager again and gave me a price that I was happy with. It's a 2011 Silverado 1500 LT, 5.3, 4x4 Crew Cab. I don't know why The Lord blesses me like he does, I don't feel that I'm worthy but I'm happy he does.

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
FWIW, I pulled a small 10' folding camper. Specifically, a Coleman Santa Fe. Its dry weight was about 2500 lbs., loaded it climbed to almost 3500 lbs. I had a trailer brakes and a brake controller in all.

I pulled this camper with a variety of vehicles, Chevy Venture, GMC Sonoma, Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Sierra 2500 HD. All were able to pull the camper.

The Venture gave me an experience that still causes my rear to harvest seat foam. Heavy traffic on I-35 just North of Waco, running about 75+ mph. Trying to maintain gap with car in front of me. A jack-leg ID10T was desperately trying to get around me. He managed then drove into the gap......maybe 15-20 feet in front of me. You guessed it......I saw brake lights several lengths ahead. I hit the brakes hard, Venture's anti-locks buzzing, trailer tossing out the anchor, gap closing fast, took to the shoulder down thru the ditch stopping on the frontage road. Mud, grass, dirt, crap flying everywhere, wife screaming....... The camper had control to push us, I only aimed. Fortunately, no damage. The car behind me got stopped less than 5' from the ID10T.

The TrailBlazer was prone to trailer sway. Also a foam harvesting event when it happens the first time. This taught me the limits of the TrailBlazer.

The Sonoma and the Sierra never had towing issues.

My point to all this is to make sure your tow vehicle can not only tow the rig, but it can also control the rig during a emergency. Cross wind can be a real challenge to control the rig.

Straight and level without traffic is easy. Pull thru Houston or DFW or Atlanta during rush hour. You will get a complete shift in towing perspective

I don't even like riding shotgun through Atlanta. My buddy had a Trailblazer and got ride of it because it was unstable without towing anything. I believe I would have had to jump on the clown that cut you off causing all that. Glad y'all made it through only needing new underpants.
