Old Toyotas are reliable new Toyotas wont make it past the factory warranty period. They all hold their value just the same.

    Allegedly

Don't buy the 1st model year of a new vehicle, I tend to agree so 4G isn't even a viable option until 2025. Turbos are unreliable, that's the only option. Hybrid system will fail. That's all hear say while I can undersrand those concerns. There are the rare engine issues with the new Tundra, so it's not like these claims are all made up. I can't just trust a YT video, but I can't dismiss the claim of an engine failure. Still these things have no impact on resale value.

OP you must be rich. I can't afford to trade every 2 years. Do you have financial advice for me? :D

Hybrid system is fine. 1M Prius running around since the late 1990s can't be wrong. Toyota knows what they are doing in that arena. Turbos remain to be seen, but that's the only game in town after this year!

Keep your current truck OP. Pay it off and enjoy the "no car payment" feeling.

I was a very sad camper when I took on a car payment for my OR a couple of months ago ... had gone years without a payment driving my 2007 Corolla. But I moved to AZ for off-the-pavement places that my Corolla does not reach, so ... <heavy sigh>

Better question, why wouldn't you? Toyota seems to have their hybrid builds down to a science. Imo, they're no fad, they work, and very well. Only issue I see is...does the op really need a new truck?

I can't even imagine the market adjustments dealers will put on those trucks. They already think their shit doesn't stink, I shudder to think what will happen as people line up in response to the hype.

It will be. One of the main complaints about the current trucks is that the power is made around 3500 RPM. 1700 RPM will make a huge difference, especially for highway driving.

6500lb towing was addressed by the lead engineer. He said they deliberately didn't go for higher towing. They could have, but they would be giving up something else and they weren't willing to do that. They've also said in the past that Tacomas aren't meant for full time towing and these are more of lifestyle trucks. If you want to tow more, you should really have a larger truck anyway. TFL demonstrated this with an F150 and Colorado diesel (7700 lbs tow rating) by towing a Corvette on a flatbed, weighing a total of 5600lbs which was well within the tow ratings for both. The Colorado was not that good from a handling standpoint. It had plenty of power, but did suffer from a bit of trailer away.

Smaller engines with turbos are the way things are going. Many people blasted diesels when they added turbos and now they're pretty much standard. The main issues with turbo engines come from the times when people would slap a turbo on to an engine that was never designed for it. That's not to say other issues can't come up, but that's with anything. If they weren't somewhat reliable, Ford wouldn't still be pushing them so hard and other manufacturers certainly wouldn't be wasting their time on them.

NEVER get the first model year of a redesign! There will be issues (there always are) that Toyota will find and correct.

That's not saying much. One time a guy on here made that claim and asked how many 3rd gens were out there with 200k+ miles as his evidence. He got shockingly quiet after I pointed out that the earliest ones would have had to get 60k miles per year to reach that number at the time (the average person drives less than 20k per year). Since then a few have reached that. There's even a thread on it. I imagine the new ones will have growing pains, but I highly doubt Toyota would invest so heavily into something they didn't believe in when their entire reputation is about reliability.
