Has anyone ever sold a used gun to Cabelas? I know they buy but I wonder how bad they'd stick it to me. I'm toying with the idea of selling one of my SKS's. I'm in the market for a handmade 18th c. Fusil de Chasse muzzleloader and this would help towards the price of that.

It's a Yugo M59/66 with all Tapco upgrades. 922r compliant (new american made operating rod and gas piston), Tapco fusion stock in Dark Earth, muzzle brake (looks just like the old NATO grenade launcher), shell deflector, Weaver scope mount w/30mm red dot (currently mounted on front rail scout style), a barrel mounted tri-rail with adjustable bi-pod, and two 20rd magazines. It's a great shooter and a tank of a gun. I'm just worried that Cabelas would want to buy it for what a stock SKS would go for.

They're not crap. They are good guns. I'm not a fan of all of the Crapco upgrades on it. If you sell it to a private person you could get maybe 3-350. You have to remember the shop have to make some money on it. We would try and sell it for 3-350 if we got it from you for around 100-200

remember, Cabelas is the middle man so they have to buy it low enough to make a profit on their end.

I remember looking in the shotgun news papers 10-13 years ago you could buy SKS's for 100-160 bucks.

Selling a gun to a dealer/Cabelas is a bad idea. They will give you next to nothing for it. I tried to sell a new AR-15 with tons of parts and mods, I had about $1500 in it and I was offered $700 from a dealer, he knew what I had, and knew that he needed to make some money too. And since it was "custom" built to what I wanted, just like your SKS is customized to what you like, it makes it a harder sell. I ended up parting out the upper on my AR and keeping the lower, in the end I lost about $100 compared to what I paid, all in all it was a good deal because I outgrew my first AR build.

I think an estimate of $150 to $200 from Cabelas is about correct. They have to check it out and confirm that it works before they sell it, they need to run the lights, and pay some a-hole to mark all of their stuff up 150%.

I would just keep it, it is a good, solid gun to have. Or find a local person, and go through a local FFL. Or sell it on consignment in a local shop.

I too would keep it unless you find someone local to buy it. Gunbroker is a good place to see how much you could get for a gun. I'll still trade you a lyman's great plains rifle 54 caliber for it :D

It's retail. Everything is about doubled. If they buy something that they can sell for $1000, they are only going to give you $500. This is pretty standard except for some electronics and vehicles.

First let me state, that I love the SKS, I have one myself, but you have to consider that the SKS got popular as being a very reliable, but unsexy gun available at a bargain price. A lot of experts even say adding aftermarket stuff detracts from the resale value as opposed to the original condition.

Just depends on if you find the buyer looking for exactly that. But I doubt if a shop is going to give you much credit for the accessories. In fact you might come out better restoring it to original as much as possible and selling the accessories separately, I don't know.

Kind of like some of the folks I see on here pouring money into lift kits, bumpers, wheels and such. If that's what they want, fine, go ahead. But they should realize it is still a Tacoma, so don't expect to get much of that money back at resale.

Five years ago I would buy 5-10 SKS Rifes for $89.00 each. I would remove the 10rd stripper mag. and clean them up and sell for $150+ with a 30rd mag. The SKS is an unbreakable gun. They will last forever.
If want sell it you should be able to get $250+ for it...............
