Yeah I feel like I need to own my modded truck 30+ years to make it worth it. Honestly I am just trying to pay it off so I can get a daily, and enjoy the best of both worlds. The daily being a Model 3 (preferably US made cause the chinese ones aren't far off)

One other comment that makes it hard to evaluate the sale of modifications is labor. Both professional, and owner's labor. It's just really hard to put a cost to it all. I imagine there have been discussions on TW ad nauseam. But I am already at a good 20-40 hours+ on my vehicle, probably more as that's just a WAG which doesn't account for the jobs which included the blood/sweat/tears which blank your memory. And if you tear all the mods out, you've effectively doubled the labor cost and now you have parts some of which might not fit your next ride, and won't do shit on eBay. Anyway I will shut up now.

My personal opinion and personal experience from building a bunch of trucks/Jeep's/etc over the years is that if you have to worry about trade-in value or resale value, just don't mod. You will spend a lot of wasted time worrying instead of enjoying the truck.

You bought your truck because you liked it, so do what you want to it, drive it how you want to, do what ever mods you want to, ... Then if you have to sell it one day, it really doesn't matter what you get for it, you got your money's worth :)

Just my two pennies worth :)

Yeah I'm regretting modding my truck but too late now lol.
Main reason I'm selling/trading it is to get something with 4x4.
I know I should've got 4x4 to begin with but I didnt have a need for it since I was on asphalt 99% of the time.
Was thinking of just converting it to 4x4 but that'd be a mission...

One plus about mods though, it will probably sell faster if they look good.

Decide what you want for it and list it. IF you don't get any serious bites in a month or so, consider changing it back. Do the simplest first, it may move just fine. If not, you have options.

Not really that bad a conversation. I have the FJ tranny and manual tcase, still trying to decide to own front diff or solid axle. Is it paid off or you pay notes?

Could always just find a bashed up 4wd and swap all your stuff to it, bed, body panels and all, then reassemble the prerunner with the smashed parts and make some money back :). I'd LOVE to find a project truck with a great body, good interior, but bad trans and/or/engine and/or/rear diff and/or tcase

Careful what you ask for,the 4x4 IFS systems on these trucks are not the best, lots of problems with them.

If it's paid off, conversion might be cheaper than a new truck. I'm Prerunner also, already have FJ transmission and transfer case, just haven't decided if I want to go SAS or conversion for the front diff.

If you go with FJ tcase, then no worries about electronics

BTW, why all the sudden need for 4WD?

Depends on the mods, and also the overall condition of the vehicle. also depends on buyer

Try selling with them first, with a slight premium. you could easily snag a buyer who will pay a premium (depending on mods)

Obviously, right of the gate, don't sell to the guy who wants a dicount because there are mods. they are looking for a deal. taco's are premium vehicles in the secondary market so don't worry about finding another buyer.

If you know your products and did the install yourself you will find it easy to filter out the lowballers and capture the right buyer.

Yeah I'm still tryna figure out what I wanna do.
Was planning on getting the new Dodge ram TRX lol but that's a bit out of my price range and am lowkey considering a new Pro Tacoma but also kinda pricey.
I wonder if they have a supercharged Tacoma package?
Just paid off my Tacoma last month tho and I'm only paying 500 in rent with one less truck payment so I'm going to save and most likely trade it in when I decide to move to Washington, which was my plan so I'm looking into getting a 4WD vehicle mainly for snow and offroading.

I agree most mods don't add much to the value and some actually detract value. But many of your mods cannot be reversed easily, or at all. I say reverse the ones you can do fairly easily, that you can also sell the parts/materials and get some money back. If it's not easy or you can't sell the stuff, leave it on. Prospective buyers may like them. Or if a buyer gripes about a mod, you can offer to remove it and help the sale.
I think it's funny how you can put zero money into modifications and (in most cases) it will be worth more when you sell...

It's paid off... You have $$$$, you like your truck, toss in an FJ AWD drivetrain for the snow :)

Once you strip the drivetrain out of the FJ, I'll take it, wanna build one anyway :). It's a win, win!

Lol! Funny but true! The guy I sold my LexusRX to paid me $2,000 over market value to undo A/V mods and put it back exactly as the factory made her! LOL, the A/V was a 3 month build!
