Has anyone here had trouble selling a truck with a CMC and major trimming, or had someone try to sue for injury in an accident because of a CMC? I want to do one and run 305/70R16s but I'm hesitant due to the possible long term repercussions since it's permanent. I'm more of a function over form guy generally but it would sure look badass with my Ray10s...

Also, I was debating just writing up a bill of sale if/when I ever sell it and getting it notarized. Would that be worth doing as a CYA kind of thing?

Thanks, been thinking about my options for a couple months now and can't decide.

I wouldn't be worried about it. Everything I have sold was modified, even old lawnmowers were modded.

In general, with a 12 year old vehicle (like yours), there could be any number of things unsafe. The CMC wouldn't be any worse than selling your truck with rust holes in the frame, worn brake pads, dry-rotted spare tire, leaking fuel line, ECM harness chewed by rats...

Bottom line: If you're selling the truck as-is with no warranty from you, then it's 100% buyer's responsibility to inspect the truck to make sure it's safe and roadworthy.

Yeah I suppose I might be. I wasn't sure if maybe it wasn't legal to sell a truck with a modified frame or something, but I know it would look great with 33x12s so I might just do it. I've had the BAMF plates for a while now anyways.

You're good bud, its nothing to worry about.

Even if you removed all the airbags and disabled the light there's no recourse. They get it inspected, if you lie about it, then its an issue.

Frame isn’t modified with a CMC. Body is.

How do you figure? You cut the frame where the cab mounts to it. You don’t cut the cab. You can do a CMC, remove the cab, and the part you cut will still be attached/welded to the frame.

That’s right. I was thinking about something different, so only half thought that out.

Ok, so I decided to go for it. Stellar Built Off Road in Sacramento wants $250. Is that reasonable or should I shop around? I mostly care that it's quality work since I can't weld myself.

Ok, thanks for the help. I'll look around in the NorCal threads.

Just cut it yourself. Welding a "plate" back on there is a waste of time. There's a 3" hole in the bottom for fuck's sake!
