I was thinking about the same thing OP. Really was thinking of trading it in for a 4Runner, but

You just have to ask yourself if the differences are really worth the jump.

I love the everything about the 4Runner but when it comes to capabilities, function, and suttle differences.
The 4Runner is essentially a Tacoma with a hardtop on. In my opinion.

Do it OP haha. I wanted my significant other to get a Pro 4Runner, but she wouldn't not have gotten a discount on it. So she settled for a Trail Premium which is a beast and she got a big discount on it. Oh and she has zero clue what's it capable of haha. She did give me the permission to take it out ones in a while :D

Has all the features of a 3rd Gen Taco, still has that reliable and torque V6 and if I'm not mistaken it still made in Japan.

Throw a camper shell on it for the dogs. Done.

Take off all the accessories that you can and resale it privately. Hopefully you kept the oem rims and tires. But as everyone says you'll get very little back for all the money spent.
Maybe you can swap tires and rims on the 4Runner for your tacos.

Yeah. But doing 75-80 in CO at altitude his truck has a hard time even staying in 6th gear on the freeway

Dogs are safer in a secured crate so I go with that option. Plus it is easier to put and take stuff from the bed without a camper shell for me.

Lol..."an overwhelming number of used abandoned"....new ones don't stay on the lot longer than a week and I've yet to see a used one at any of my regional dealerships. I guess whatever it takes to make you feel better about your 2014.

I have used the ECT and it is tons better. But with that said this is a 40k truck it should drive right in drive. You should not have to band aid a 40k truck with the tow/haul button every time you get in it.

If you don't like it, sell it and go back to ford. Good luck with the carbon buildup that the ecoboost is well known for among other issues.

That seems to be the plan. I know tons of ecoboost trucks with 200k on them no issues. Why can't Toyota just fix this issue and keep customers??? Ford sells 2 to 1 f150s than Toyota does tacomas so yea I'm sure there is a few more issues popping up somewhere

When I want to feel better about my second gen I just take a look at the Kelly Blue Book on it. Sure is pretty.

Its probably more like 7 F150s to 1 Tacoma.

If you are going to sell it, why not look for a private sale? Are you in a big hurry? If so, you have no choice... you will take a bath. Nice looking truck by the way.

5-6k straight up seems to be what people are losing trading in their 2016's. Of course this is also dependent on what kind of "deal" you make on the vehicle you are trading for.

You guys aren't going to believe this! I honestly can't believe it. I went to CarMax today and they looked my truck over and offered me $34,800. The offer is good for 7 days. If I don't sell it through Craigslist, I'm thinking CarMax offered me a damn good offer.

Is that with all your accessories removed or is it as it sits now?
