    Hey guys,

I’m selling my Leer 100R and was wondering if there is a way for me to remove the wiring that the topper company installed in my truck to connect to the topper. I’d like to give it to the guy I’m selling it to. I did some googling and couldn’t find anything about removing the wiring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They probably tapped a tail light. You will have to look to see if that's what the did. When I sold mine I unplugged the topper and new owner bought the part of the harness from a Leer dealer that taps the tail light. I guess you could cut the wires close to where they tapped them and then seal them up real good to prevent moisture getting in.

remove the tail lite lens, probably on the driver side of the vehicle, the splice will be inside there. Leave about an inch or two as a pigtail and cut the cap wiring. Put shrink wrap of the correct size on the pigtail and heat it so it shrinks onto the bare end leaving a tail that isn't covered then wrap that in a little electrical tape to hold it to the other wiring. If they did put plugs there to unhook, unhook them, put a little silicone [electrical type that doesn't dry out] in them and wrap them in a little tape. That way they can be used down the road for something else while keeping water out of them.

There are two ways the installer might have wired the topper to the truck. The first is by tapping the tail light wiring, as explained above. The second way is the use of the Leer "T" harness, that intercepts the 7-pin trailer connector. Look under the rear bumper to see if that's what you have.

Jacobswx, thanks for posting this. I had the same question. It looks like my original 3rd brake light still works, but my trailer light don't so I'll need to check if they may have tapped into those. Thanks again!
