    Hello everyone,
New member here. I've been lurking for a while and enjoy reading all your post.

I'm planning to buy a new Tacoma soon and sell my old Tacoma. I live in Southern CA, but hear bad things about selling your vehicles on craigslist. Any suggestion on good websites to put my old Tacoma for sell? It seems that a lot of people her just trade in their old Tacoma, but I probably could make more selling it myself.

Thousands are sold on Craigslist every day, so not sure what you've heard.

I'd recommend CL over any other internet based car sales website.

I have to agree with Craigslist being the best option. You will have to weed through a bunch of bogus bs inquiries, but at the of the day, it is the best option. I would also post in cars.com. There is a free option that runs for 30 days and you can post up to 5 pictures, I believe. If 30 days goes by without selling, just renew your post...

When I sold my Harley a few weeks ago, I did the following:

    1. Did the showing at the police station parking lot and safe zone. Cameras taping all activity.
    2. Had the buyer meet me at my bank. It was a branch location two blocks from their house. He brought 17,500 in cash and handed it to the clerk and she counted it on the machine and deposited it.
    3. I signed the title and handed it over with folder of all records.
    4. Followed the buyer to his house and parked the bike in his garage. My wife followed me.
    5. Turned over the keys and other misc. stuff
    6. Shook hands and took off.
    7. Followed up with the buyer 3-4 weeks later to see if he was enjoying the bike.
I wasn't thrilled with step 4 but it was only a couple of blocks and I left insurance intact until after. The buyer had a German motorcycle license and had not completed the requirements for his Texas license. I warned him against driving it until he did so I did him a favor. He smartly took a drivers safety course at the local Harley dealer using their special bikes, got his license, etc.

The transaction went safe and smooth. Think smart.

Always a red flag that they aren't that serious when potential buyer doesn't ask many questions but wants to "Talk Numbers" before ever seeing the vehicle. If they start to go that route I usually tell them to come look at the vehicle then we can talk numbers if they like it. I've found you can weed through some of the tire kickers up front by doing this.

Craigslist is a safe bet. You'll have to deal with people who low ball you or try to say every little thing should drop the price 5k but eventually a serious buyer will show up.

Also, watch for the email response that says, " blah blah, tell me the best price and I will have a cashier's check.." followed by gobs of TMI about whatever is going on in their life, church, etc. These are bogus scams looking to flip a phony cashiers check your way.

Interested in your ''item'' /''vehicle'' you are selling, generic replies are 99.999% scammers, same for anyone who has their ''shipper/expiditer [sp]'' to come and pick it up or giving you ''extra'' money to ship.

Thanks everyone for your response. You rebuilt my confidence in craigslist again. I just have to be extra careful.

I have a 2006 DCSB Prerunner, for the people that are interested. I'm not going to put it up for sale yet; I'm going to wait until i get my new Tacoma first then sell it.

Sold mine on Craigslist. Make sure to meet in a public location and don't meet someone alone. I meet in front of a local grocery store. It's safe for the buyer and seller. I take them to my house after I've verified that there is cash on hand and price has been agreed upon. Be safe and don't let people lowball you. Take good pictures and post as many as you can. I know if there are bad pictures I won't look much further past those.

That works ok if it is cash transaction. If bank or.financing meet at Bank is better. Not sure who would show up somewhere with 5+grand cash in public. Just asking to get jacked

Sold mine through race-dezert. Had several interested and 3 offers in less than a week. To be fair, it was also listed here and on CL. All the interest came from RD though.
