Can anyone point me to a post or tell me how I can send a text through my new Tacoma. I can have them read to me when driving but I can’t respond via voice text through the truck. Thanks

Looks like what I've read it can't be done. That's a bummer, fingers crossed that an update will come one day for Apple Play.

Download the Entune app on your iPhone, connect your Bluetooth to your truck and make sure the app is running and paired. Once it is I never close the app and just let it run in the background all the time.

When you are all connected and want to send a text:

Press and hold the phone button on the left side of the steering wheel until a picture of a microphone comes on the screen and turns green.
    Then say “message [Joe] [Hello]”
Where Joe is the contact in your phone (have to say the name the same way you have it stored in your phone)
    And Hello is your message.

The system will confirm your message and ask if you are ready to send, and you can reply send or yes.

This is how it works with iPhone 6S-8 at least and I assume any iPhone.

Don't need to leave app open. I have the SR5 and just press the rocker for 2 seconds and get the Siri prompt. I wonder if you can do the Hey Siri thing??

Good to know. I still need to leave it running in the background for my slacker radio though.

I think you have to press the rocker for Siri to listen.

Using hey siri works. Phone just needs to be out of your pocket. I let the tacoma read them to me and I use "hey Siri" to respond using a iphone x

I don't know if being connected to a 3rd gen specifically disables hey siri but it should work anytime depending on settings. IOS has an options to allow "hey siri", press home for siri, and allow siri when locked

So it sounds like the PHONE microphone acts on the Hey Siri command - because the truck microphone is off until you press the button.

You don't. "Hey Siri" works fine as long as your iPhone is paired w/ Bluetooth. You can tell her to send a text message to someone or read my new text messages. Just remember to speak towards the bluetooth speaker in the overhead panel (at least on a 2nd Gen) and not towards the actual phone.

Most likely. I can still hear Siri through the speakers on the vehicle for confirming the text and sending the message.

so this is what I have always done and it has worked for the two years I’ve owned my truck. Recently had to reset my phone and now it won’t work. Says it’s not enabled. Any ideas how to enable?

If you have an iPhone you can just hold down the speaking person icon. It activates Siri and they you can just have her do it.

Can't you just say, "hey, Siri" or "hey, Google" and then tell the phone what your want to do? I do this all the time with my 2016 and my 2015 did the same. No app required, just the phone os.
