Seniority sucks when you dont have it. Ask me how I know..... :pout:

What sucks even worse is when you are a contractor.

And what sucks even worse is when you get hired on from being a contractor.

    ^ = Screwed.

Each station has 3 shifts and we rotate through days, swings, and graveyard shifts every 56 days with regular days off going forward every 28 days. Seniority pretty much gets you a better car in our agency if you are working shift work.

Seniority gets: Shift pick, nicest car assignment, first pick for OT shifts and details. I get none of these.

Senority is the way alot of agencies run there is no other way to figure out who gets what with out causing major arguements. In mine it counts for shift days off bids, vacation picks ( A year in a advance) etc It isn't the military where they will tell a E-7 no you had xmas off last year so your not getting it this year the E-3 is, totally different system and lol NO UNION....

There is nothing wrong with being rewarded for finding a job you like enough to put in your time and do your job well enough to be kept around long enough for some perks. It should motivate people to excel and show stability and not be something to be immediately hated on by those who have not done what is required to earn such a thing or have jobs that do not reward loyalty in such a manner. Either do what it takes to have seniority or move on to a place that rewards seniority...it's what anyone else has to do.

Senority is what it is. I usually don't have a problem. We do all of our scheduling on a google calendar. As long as not more than 3 people have the day off you are free to go. No need to even call you supervisor or anything just take it off.
