I just saw this thread, but there is another thread on this issue that I posted on yesterday. I rode in the back seat of my truck this past weekend while it was raining and noticed that the seat was wet. I have leather so it was difficult to get good pictures like the ones posted above. After bringing it in to service, they called to tell me that the third tail light has a defective seal. Toyota told me that the lights are on back order so I am thinking that this must be a common problem, but has not come to light yet. I don't think my water damage was as bad as yours, but I have a subwoofer (stock) behind my seat that was pretty wet.

If you have a 2016 or 2017 this is something that I would periodically check. I'm unsure how many people this has to happen to in order to declare a recall but if it is happening to more than a handful of vehicles now--vehicles with third tail lights straight from the factory--then I guarantee that there will be more to follow.

I just discovered a leak on my truck today. Went through the car wash and probably about a quart of water/soap leaked in. Got out to inspect and the only thing obvious that I see is a slight Gap at the top of the brake light. Hopefully I can just tighten it up and not have to mess with the dealership.

Did Toyota repair the headliner? Mine started leaking. I really don't feel like scrubbing with baby wipes for hours.

It's stained. Smell? I have been spraying my truck with more cologne than usual lately. But it might be because it's hot and my swamp ass is worse.

This will kill the funk and it's source. I even tried it on a wet mop and it knocked that smell completely out. Works great to kill mold in your a/c system.

I just noticed this in my 2016 Double Cab. I have 59K miles on it, any chance the dealership takes care of this since it's a known issue?

I’m at the dealership right now having mine looked at for this same problem. Headliner stained and back seat has been wet, not sure how long it has been happening.

That really sucks. My guess is they tell you to pound sand but go try anyway so you have it documented. Then call corporate (be nice) and see if they will intervene.

Wonderful. Does anyone have any numbers how much that will cost out of pocket? Just to do the brake light replacement by itself?

Actually I was a Ford tech when the 2015 new body Edges came out -- and if there was enough water damage, Ford took them back and disposed of them. Mold is a major health concern.

I think their determining factor was if the seat cushions were wet/damp iirc -- and this is from a leak that entered in the passenger kickboard.

Otherwise they replaced the carpet, sprayed anti-fungal stuff on the insulation beneath, sealed the gaping hole in the a-pillar, and called it a day.

Shoot, if only you guys knew the horror stories of how bad the Jeep Wranglers leak! I pity those guys. Before my taco, I had a JK in and out, 30 days total, in the shop. One of the times they “fixed” it I brought it home, tested it, and literally had a waterfall pouring off the sound bar on to the seats. It’s a Jeep thing.
