Recovery went wrong, if you do a search here there are a few threads with guys over 100k on their 3rd gens and nothing but routine maintenance. If you search cars.com you'll find some as well. I wouldn't hesitate, coming from someone who has had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gens.

10 to one post of 3rd gens complaints about their trucks compared to 2nd gen. They act like its so fragile they can't drive it. Just an observation on a 35K plus truck cost.

I will echo this, as someone that's lurked here since 2010 and my 2nd gen days, the 3rd gen brought with it a whole new type of tacoma owner, many who are coming from BMWs, sports cars, WRXs, etc. and the threads you see reflect some of the very silly unrealistic expectations of these people for a mid size, toyota truck.

I hope you're joking about that infamous incident influencing your evaluation of the truck.

    so true.

not sure what's acceptable here, OP, but I'll just add that I'm at 75k miles, run my motor around 3krpm for 1-2 hours several times a week like that since i got the truck new, and I've never had any issues aside from those i created through modding or whatever. if there was a driveline reliability concern with mine i would have found it by now. 2017 V6 MT.

About 80K miles on my 2018 el Manuel on 35s. It’s a POS truck, but out of all mid size trucks on the NA market it is the least of the evil. Others are much worse. No match to European/Australian market, looking at you Hilux and 79 series...

It’s almost paid off (2 months left), but sure my last new Toyota. :crapstorm:

They don’t make them like they used to.

My only complaint with the 3rd gen is long distance freeway travel while on cruise control. Set at 75mph, it wasn’t much fun. I prefer the 2nd gen five speed in that specific scenario.

Whenever my 2021 arrives, I’ll retest and see if it is any better than my 2017 was.
