Don't get me wrong, I love sports and luxury german vehicles too, and someday hope to have a stable with more than a Tacoma in it. I was just pointing out or generalizing, certainly not you, some of the new members I see that had no need for a truck, made the move based on tacoma resale, IG / socials / etc. and then get upset when the door handle plastic scratches (yes there was a thread for that), seems like everyday I see a whats the biggest tires and wheels I can fit thread, don't ever remember that in 2nd gen days, guess its a good thing they've become more popular but there has most certainly been a change in owner demographic too.

I'm leaving BMW for a Tacoma. A change of lifestyle, a move to a more rural location, and just generally unhappy with the direction that new 'performance' cars are taking.

I understand what I'm getting into though. Not sure why people set such unrealistic expectations when buying a truck. I think it speaks to what you're saying about resale/IG/socials. The NA market in general is a strange shit show in my opinion. Then again, if people like me only bought cars, there would be no car market to speak of.
I'm planning to keep the truck 'forever', batter the hell out of it off-roading, to haul my bikes [pedal and motor], and just basic adventure type shit. TRUCK stuff. It's why I'm getting an AC MT. Eventually, I'll add another USED/OLDER performance orientated car.
But for now, I'm really looking forward to getting my cross between a GT2RSMR and Unimog Overlander. Just wait for my first complaint thread!

I am coming up on 60k miles. My rig is over 6k pounds, so I'm over the GVWR.

I wheel it and drive it daily. I get beached on my sliders a lot, I think this was the worst one. I didn't have to dig or winch for this one though, I powered off it:

Lots of cobbled trails of varying difficulty:

Lots of clay trails like these:

I think I also have put about a nautical mile on the truck. So many creek crossings...

My skids and undercarriage are dented and gouged but still in good shape:

And we hit light trails too, my wife likes to go foraging and I like to hike:

Also, you can camp in it - with the rear hatch closed, the bed platform is over 6' long.

If that's not enough, I have probably around 20k miles towing. More than half of that is with this:

The rest of my tow mileage is with a utility trailer with loads up to 4k lbs. I've also pulled a car carrier with a car on it, a 22' long fully loaded tandem cargo trailer (I do not recommend that), a tractor, lots of stuff.

I have done nothing but pay it off, do mods, and do maintenance.

I've had no mechanical issues, and even am still on the factory battery despite using it heavily with the camper setup. This truck exceeds all my expectations.

UNACCEPTABLE; THE 0-60 TIME IS WHAT!?

Thanks! I'm looking forward to the cloth seats actually. I've never really been into leather seating. But I digress; back to the thread....

Lol, I realized my mistake once you said AC, I like the cloth, the cloth in the early second gens was a nightmare to keep clean though in the TRDs, water would stain it, I really liked my heated cloth seats in my 17.

That thread disappeared, the IG posts disappeared the facebook page disappeared...

Dude the 3rd gen is like every other gen. Take care of it, don't do stupid shit and it will last a long time. There are several high mileage threads here that show it goes a long way with minimal maintenance. One guy has 300K on his 2016.
And, just like anything else, every now and then a bad one gets put out the door. It happens. They are still the leader by far and there is a lot more competition than when you got yours, yet they still lead.

Do what you want... my words are truth.

I changed up my daily driver 2016 BMW X5 to a 2021 TRD 4x4 Off Road. I still own E46 M3 and have other Toyota’s in my stable. You are right though that people’s luxury expectations from their Tacoma’s are too high at times. We need to embrace the Tacoma for what it is.
Now, can you fine folks tell me which pair of Oakleys go good with my Tacoma? :D

Lol. I owned the poor man's E46, BMW323, when I was an E-3 / baby airman, fun also to mod and e46fanatics was an awesome forum. Oakley's figured you'd be more of a Gucci guy.

Very true. My Gardner and Pest Control guys both drive 3rd Gen Taco’s. Even the windshield repair guy who came-out to fix the windshield in one of my cars drove a 3rd gen. Gotta be something to it when guys who depend on their trucks to make a living are using them.

What? How? And what do you mean by pitting. 28k is nothing for a manual.
