I've had two 3rd gen Tacomas now. One was a work vehicle, base model 2016 4cyl and I abused it. Best damn truck I've owned so I bought a 2017 TRD Off road. This one takes the cake man. I love it and I'm at 91k. Both trucks have had no issues and the 2016 is still running (still being abused by my previous employer). I don't think I'll ever get another vehicle

    I had a major issue.

2GR-FKS. It just seemed to work as normal, and normal was terrible.

You guys don’t use the parking brake? I use it all the time in my taco. Am I missing something?

My parking brake is still nice and tight too, only needs 2 maybe 3 clicks max to fully engage. When I took it to the dealer couple times, they crank that bad boy up to like 5-7 clicks, never understood that. It just stretches the cable.

Oh and they always left it in first too, had a couple of wtf moments when releasing the clutch after the start up, haha!

Do you not leave in gear when you park it? I always use the brake and leave it in gear. Although the way my driveway is, I'm backed up to a pretty tall curb so I just leave it in gear and don't use the parking brake in the winter because it does freeze up sometimes. Nothing that 1st gear and 2lo can't fix lol. When it warms up I plan on dousing the inside of my drums with WD40 and letting it sit and drain to help loosen up any gunk or buildup.

-Tranfer case spilled its guts on my driveway at 17k ($4k covered under factory warranty after fighting the dealership and Toyota for 3 weeks)
-tonneau cover cracked and broke for no reason at 17k ($1000 Toyota denied manufacturing defect warranty claim)
-BSM stopped working at 38k miles ($1800, Toyota denied under certified used warranty)
-blue tooth module intermittently cuts out ($600 Toyota denied under certified used warranty)

    current need:
-body needs to come off frame for rust prevention. 4 day job.
-need the tsb done for wind noise

if I had purchased the extended bumper to bumper warranty it would have paid for itself 3 times already.

    shame on me?

I only leave it in gear if it’s very steep hill, 1st or R depending which way I’m facing. Other than that 99% of the time my parking brake works perfectly, never froze up just yet. If I’m against the curb or whatever, I just leave it in neutral and no parking brake.

From my experience on my ranger, the truck can still roll when in gear and on a very steep hill, so I always used both just in case. Also I use a wheel chock at the boat ramps so my truck doesn’t go swimming. I have one in the back of my taco, just in case.

My only problem with leaving it a neutral against the curb and no brake is two idiots can roll the truck somewhere. Watched some guys in my old apartment complex do that to my Jeep because they wanted to park closer.

Interesting.. I've never heard of not putting the transmission in 1st or reverse when parking, in any situation.

Been doing that ever since I started driving, so about 17 years now. Never had an issue. I always think that leaving it in neutral leaves the spring unloaded for less wear? I could be very wrong.

Haha! That would suck big time!

I mean if it’s downhill and I’m against a curb or whatever, I don’t see a reason to have it in gear. Try pushing this 4600# uphill, haha!

Huh.. never thought of that, but never heard of or had a shifter go bad or weak either.
In gear, park brake on, always. It's muscle memory lol
