Thank you very much! I love the 79 to 83 body style. I am currently restoring 2 of them, and they are my baby's lol. These pickups are tough as nails!

I grew up w 2x Toyota pickups, but a girl in high school had a 4x (I think it was an ‘83) that was blue w the white, yellow, and orange graphics, lift and 33s. Wooo! Looked so good. It wasn’t show quality or anything, but just a really nice-looking, old-school country ride.
I asked her to sell it to me.
    Of course she said no.
From that point on, I’ve loved them.
I’ll keep an eye out for yours that you’re restoring!

I bought my 3rd gen tacoma a year ago today with 68,000 miles. Given I have done some mods that haven’t helped with some of these issues. I never thought it would be in the shop as much as it is. Today I have 102,000 miles on it and I have enjoyed it for the most part but….. I just got it back from dealer today. I had a bad trans shudder and they changed the fluid and it seemed to help so far. I’m not sure if this will prevent it in the long run. My brake lines blew out probably 4 months ago. Now I’m having issues mounting them up with the factory hardware. For what ever reason the fitting on the hardline on the Toyota factory brake line won’t go through the factory bracket to mount to the knuckle. So I pretty much have to figure that out. I put on a 6 inch lift in August. Me and a few of my low IQ friend’s put it together. We were making good headway till we had to cut out the lower cam bolts. That took a while. I replaced the whole front suspension on it due to the fact the past owner ragged on it bad. Intermediate shaft has gone bad. I need a new one. Steering is shitty in my Tacoma. Lastly my speakers blew. I know the lift kit and 35’s has not helped.

Yeah sounds like all of your problems are because of the stuff you've done to your truck. Maybe a little from the previous owner. Sorry mate.

Great input SIR! What you didn't say is anything about model years. I certainly don't want to put words in your mouth but what is to be inferred is that between 1998 and 2018 you've driven Gen 1's, Gen 2's, and Gen 3's. You didn't baby any of them and each had roughly the same mileage and duty cycle. ALL THREE GENERATIONS, BETWEEN NEW AND ~100K MILES, performed the way you expected when you bought you TACOMA.

    Would that be accurate SIR!

No disrespect intended sir. I generally agree with you but I have seen, and would have bought, several modded vehicles had I been able to. There are some VERY knowledgable and talented people who do incredible things the right way because of the love and respect of the ICE and vehicles in general...

Especially if they a regular member of this forum, can you imagine some of the hack jobs that you'd have to deal with? Some of these guys can barely change their own oil

OP said, and quite pointedly, he did not want to hear from anyone chugging along without any issues. Explains 8 pages over three years. :notsure:

I've purchased my 2016 new and it has just over 65,000 miles on it.

For the infamous "don't buy a first year truck" I'm over seven years in with very, very little drama in my ownership. I had the 6MT stuck shifter TSB done early in its life. I also had the 3rd brake light TSB done. Otherwise I've been quite lucky (knock on wood). I've done oil in 5,000 miles intervals, driveline at 45,000 and just under 65,000 and plugs at 60,000. I got six years out of the original battery and still enjoy the truck nearly as much as when it was brand new. The only things I don't like about it are somewhat documented mainly around the non-linear power delivery and the sporadic EVAP code that comes 1-3x a winter. Any other annoyances mainly relate to modifications / changes I've done and that's on me.

Just get a new gas cap OEM from Toyota . It’s only like 20 plus dollars. Did mine and no longer has that code .

I did a long trip to Baja in one of these beasts... similar set-up with tires that were too big! :)

It was yellow with the sticker highlights.

Great memories from that trip. (Back in the early 90s).

    :mudding:

We brought some motorbikes along on the trip.

    :bikewhoops:

We sold them to the locals to be able to extend the trip...

    Good times!

2018 Tacoma, just hit 90k miles. Was driving on the highway yesterday, heard a loud thud and saw plastic pieces falling out from underneath my truck. Pulled over and saw coolant everywhere. Fan clutch went out. Looks like I lost my serpentine belt, broke the fan, caused issues to the radiator and broke the water pump and coolant reservoir in the process. I unfortunately was in the middle of no where on a road trip, shop quoted me 1200 for parts alone.

Truck RPMs and fan noise at acceleration was higher/ louder than normal a few weeks leading up to it but I figured it was due to heat/ uphill and wind noise. Just fyi
