You guys were right. Some motherfucker swiped me on the driver side and didn’t stop. This is my second time looking at the truck in daylight, and it’s pretty obvious. Before I was just looking at the wheels. Here’s a pic of the new swipe mark on my driver door and flare. The tire also has curb rash now. Or “hit and run” rash.

Well on the bright side, hopefully you have good insurance and it'll get taken care of by them.

People suck though, these days I would be far more surprised if someone actually left a note. I had my old Scion sideswiped once while parked on the street at work several years ago (lady hit mine and 3 other cars actually), and she fled but her husband came back a couple hours later and paid for everyone's damages out of pocket. Perks of getting sideswiped in Beverly Hills I guess, lol.

Might want to see if there are any cameras around you can use to catch the guy, if any resident's have Ring cameras, dash cams, etc.

Sorry to hear that buddy. It might not help this time, but I definitely would go out and buy a good dashcam today.

My friend just got seriously injured on the road due to someone else’s fault. He’s being dragged through the ringer trying to prove his innocence. The other driver is completely uninjured and trying to get his truck paid for. My friend will be in a wheel chair for 6 months. A dash cam could have instantly solved this.

My truck was parked outside my work at a hospital. I’ll ask security if there are any cameras pointed that way. But yep, a $75 dash cam is worth it to solve these headaches easily.

Time to get some rock sliders as well. Give a little more side protection.

Cancelled the tie rod order order. Security dept found my truck on a camera, and they're scanning the 4 hours it was parked there for. If they give me the video I'll share it here.

Talked to the shop guy and he said it could be more than tie rod damage of course. I'll probably be making a hit and run claim. The $500 deductible is a cheap way to make sure everything possibly damaged is fixed.

I could also go the cheap route, only replacing the tie rods and ignore the swipe mark. But the rack could be messed up as well as other stuff, so I won't do that.

Might want to hold off on that till things go through insurance.

Im sorry it came to this, but yeah def hit up your insurance, things are likely also bent n tweaked. Id suspect at the very least a spindle too.

Question for ya, do your wheels stick out, outside of the fenders?

Fingers crossed the tierod took all of the force and its a simple fix (also fingers crossed you catch the video). Scratches look minimal, id be inclined to take the check for body damage and buff them out. That stated you def want to make sure there isnt larger hidden damage.

Good idea I guess. No the tires are just about flush with the flares. It could be possible that I left the wheels pointing into the street after I parked though. But the driver did get close enough to scrape the truck's body. It seems like a shorter car like a sedan might have hit me, there only is a tiny mark on my side mirror. It's not smashed like if a taller car might have hit it.

Im wondering if the person was making a U turn or some sort of slower speed manuvering and slowly caught the outter edge of your tire as it slightly stuck out due to being turned.

They confirmed at 15:25 Friday the 6th, a small light colored SUV side swiped me. Plate number not visible as I expected. They can’t release the footage to me (HIPAA rules) but will show it to the insurance if they want to see it.

Tie rods don't bend like that short of blunt force. Someone hit your truck, joy-rided your truck, etc.

HIPAA shouldn't have anything to do with security camera footage but as long as they're willing to show it to insurance and police I guess it doesn't matter. Insurance company will probably want a police report FYI. Police can request the footage as part of the investigation if you get a decent officer/detective.

That's an interesting interpretation. How do they know the person was a patient and not a Uber driver, delivery person, salesperson, employee or someone just cutting through the parking lot? It's also a potential crime and I'm pretty sure HIPPA doesn't preclude that.

If they do show it to your insurance it doesn't really matter.

HIPAA? Where did it happen, the ER room?

That is a load of malarkey.

It's just the hospital playing CYA and if they are, then why do they have cameras in the first place?

Risk more than likely doesnt want any involvement be it a 3rd party payer, the victim, the dbag that hit the victim, etc. Still it's helpful that the victim can show their insurance from a small vid but I agree generally hippa wouldnt fall into this category (outside hospital, no patient/staff details, etc)
