I don't get the HIPAA thing either, it's a street facing camera, no patients involved. That's just what the security guy said. They will provide it to the insurance and police, and I'll probably see it eventually. Unfortunately they said they couldn't really identify anything much about the car. They also checked all the parking lot entrance and exit cams around that time to see if they could catch their plate, but no luck.

That’s BS. I’m sure most car people could tell it was a 4th gen Honda CRV with Vision Off Road wheels and very unique stickers in the windows. After all, the HALP guy was in the medical profession and poured ATF into the radiator overflow bottle because “the colors matched”.

You might talk to some of the local body shops to see if someone came in for an estimate. Maybe the husband doesn’t know what the wife did to the SUV when she was out drinking with her boyfriend.

Sounds like you got someone who didn't know what they were talking about. You should tell them you're going to submit a FOIA request. That's about as applicable to this situation as HIPAA but it sounds like they may not know any better.

Edit: Actually if it's a state or federal hospital FOIA may be applicable.

If it's a saving grace at least you know their car had to get jacked up too.

Nothing major. -3rd Gen OR suspension swap. -Trailer light plug relocation.

Seriously. If it was that hard to identify a vehicle then successfully running from the cops would be much more common. "I'm attempting to pull over a white vehicle, Oh it just sped up and passed another white vehicle. I guess they got away." My guess is someone is trying to dodge some paper work since no one was injured.

I bent an inner last week. Not quite as bad as that. What happened is that I had to get a safety inspection on a 2006 that I bought, and was told it needed a new ball joint and cv axle (boot ripped). After trying to get the ball joint out with a ball joint tool (Big C clamp) that didn't have a hope in removing it I had to remove the control arm and use buddies 50 ton press. It was tight! Anyway, I put it all back together and drove up to get it re-inspected...about 20 miles. At one point, I had to back up and truck made some very bad noises, which I attributed to the cv axle not being in quite right. But it drove forward fine. So I kept going. I was a mile away from the shop, where I was going for the final safety inspection to make sure everything was done, and I decided to jump out and "just check that front end noise" I had while backing up. Saw that the tie rod was lying loose unconnected to the knuckle. I had just hand tightened the nut, and forgot to tighten it properly. The nut was long gone and I had drove 20 miles with one tie rod disconnected. Oh. And I did not have any insurance. When I looked at the tie rod, at some point, I had really bent the inner end, probably when I backed up with the tie rod loose. Yikes.

Luckily, I am Irish and just happened to have ONE part in the truck with me. A spare outer tie rod that I had bought just in case. I removed the nut, tightened it by hand, passed the inspection and had to stop every mile driving home to get some tools, to re-tighten the nut.

Insurance adjuster looked at it today and they're trying to refuse replacing anything passenger side. Mechanic said rack and pinion looks toast.
I need to follow up on the police report and have them look at the footage.

interesting.. Hipaa is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and has nothing to do with a car accident with no injury. It’s property damage.

I missed the part where this happened outside of a healthcare facility. I can say that hospitals play hell with HIPAA when it comes to getting any kind of record. Too many lawyers and federal government fines involved so they just knee jerk on everything and say nope, sorry can't have it. There are some seriously sorry ass people out there. They will literally run you over and keep right on going.

I called the cops to check in on the police report. They need a warrant to grab the video, but they’re moving on it now.

Since insurance doesn’t seem to want to fix this the right way it would almost be nice to write off the truck. But the damage is unlikely to total the vehicle.

Certainly is a necro post. On the other hand I was alerted to the group buy by Slashaar's post, read it, and bought a set.

Just like Epstein, it didn't do it's self. If there isn't significant body damage I'm calling driver error.
