I had the new tortada at Taco Bell today and now I'm confused. Not sure if it's better than a taco or not...

Seriously I wouldn't count the Frontier out @ all. Its a very nice truck when I was test driving the two. Yes, the Taco was a much better buy imho. You can't mention all the mods that are out there for the TACO.

You can't compare the TACO Community neither. TW kills!

However if you look and buy a well kept FRONTY used. You can snag a killer F'n deal on one!

I've seen Double Cab 06-07 Nismos for around 13-15k with low miles. King Cab Nismos for around 11-13k. Thats a dam good deal and when you invest $$$$ into Mods. You can have one hell of a Beast!

There's a reason for that...But I have decided that taco's are definitely better than burrito's AND tortada's. Case closed.

I have previously owned a 99 Nissan Frontier before i bought the Tacoma. i traded it in at 100K and i have to say that although Nissan makes a strong engine/transmission, the quality is just not comparable to TOYOTA!!!! Nissan practices cost cutting techniques by using Uncoated bolts with no corrosion prevention, cheap metal, Poor Fitting dash panels, Poor frame That will rust out long before the tacoma. The front end of the new frontier looks like A$$ compared to our TACOMAS. They are cheaper for a reason and i will always pay the premium for TOYOTA quality!!!

I had a 2006 4x4 Frontier that I traded in for my 09 Tacoma. When I bought the Frontier in 2006 I looked at the Tacomas and honestly just got frustrated dealing with salesmen who would not budge on the prices back then.

I will say that after driving my new 09 Tacoma it is a better built truck and at first I did not like the looks of the new Tacoma....but with a few mods and time the style kind of grew on me.

Long story short I decided to trade the Frontier as soon as it went past the warranty. I had an issue with the fuel sending sensor and my fuel guage stopped working. I was shocked to find that about 80 percent of the Frontiers sold developed this issue and mine started at 37k miles. Nissan should have had a TSB or recall but instead did nothing.

I visited my dealer and they said I was past 36k and that the fuel sensor was not part of the drivetrain anyway...so not covered. The shop guy did admit that almost every Frontier had this problem and that it was about 600 dollars to replace the sensor....with the exact same defective sensor.

I personally liked the look of the Frontier and the drive was nice for a truck but the company itself is nothing compared to Toyota. I have never had any nagging issues with my two Toyotas (1999 and 2009 model) but if I did I am confident Toyota would stand behind their product. Yes I know they are having issues right now (with other vehicles) however they are trying to make it right and again this makes me feel better about trading as it shows they will do what it takes.

The whole thing made me so pissed off that I will never own another Nissan in any version vehicle. The trucks are similiar in power to weight ratio and have pretty much all the same options. Aftermarket for Nissan is crap and it is simply because the Toyota is much more popular.

The last reason I decided to ditch Nissan was resale value. I only had the Frontier 3 years however I usually paid a little extra on my payments to knock the total down. I was shocked to see the trade in value a little under what I owed on the truck.....yes I took a loss however made it up with some rebates and better financing. If I would have waited another year I would have lost more money as the Frontier just does not nearly hold the value of the Tacoma.

Good luck with whatever you choose...

Robocop is right, Frontier retail value SUCKS. and i too had common problems on my frontier that Nissan motors did nothing to recall or remedy. I had the replace a PLASTIC wiper linkage when my wipers all of the sudden quit working, and a blower motor resistor, these were common problems and Nissan did nothing about them, speaks volumes about the company. NISSAN=CHEAP

I test drove a frontier and a taco yesterday...the two main pros towered the frontier were quieter ride, larger windshield, and lower hood meaning better visibility.
The taco was better than the frontier in every other aspect. Plus the biggest thing I disliked about the frontier was the steering wheel...when I go on long drives I rest my hand right at 6 o'clock on the wheel. No opening on the frontier for that. The opening was on the taco. Done deal.

The power of the free market :D

    survival of the fittest (corporations)

If you think Nissan has a better truck, and you're fed up with Toyota, do it. I probably won't buy another Toyota when my truck dies. Not because of the actual vehicle, but because Toyota thinks their shit doesn't stink. They have horrible customer service.

i had a 2002 super charged king cab frontier it was a nice little truck. that year it didn't come with a locker but, it was pretty capable and plenty powerful the new one has a tractor motor in it it has some balls!

i test drove a new 2010 king cab nismo 4x when i was shopping for the taco. i think style wise they fucked the truck up completely! the interior while comfy looks like a pair of nut's so thumbs down in that catagory:(

the exterior does not look nearly as good as the tacoma but, does not kill it for me i have seen a few lifted with some tasteful and functional mods that looked pretty nice! so thumbs up:(

i have owned many many nissans and never had a problem with any of them what so ever. so reliability should be good or at least on per with the toyota. come to find out my tacoma has more than a few problems the squeaky climate fan this horrible noise from the clutch being depressed and released probably a throw out bearing!! btw my tacoma reg cab has 6,000 miles on it!

there is virtually no after market for the nissans though and this is what killed it for me! i knew this time around i wanted to spend money and build a little monster truck. thats what i'm well on my way to having it seems so mission accomplished :)

in the end they are both nice but. if you want to wheel your truck and plan on modding it lifts bumpers and the like stick with the toyota imho.

i can def speak to the shit customer service! they have some work to do on the next tacoma imho.

my uncle george was a service manager of a large toyota dealership in south jersey for 20+ years and in the last 10 things have nose dived. i feel like before that was a selling point of a toyota now it's def a down fall.

the throw out bearing/ ac system on my truck sounds like a diesel when it's being used. the squeaky fan and the general lack of knowledge at the dealer level is astonishing to me. in this area toyota has not impressed me at all.

I know this is an old thread that we just don't let die... but it is a valid issue with me at least. I was trying to decide between the two as well. I have had two Nissan Armadas and never had an issue with either one. Reason I got rid of my last one was simply due to the gas prices and how much that thing like to drink gas...

When trying to decide on the Tacoma 4x4 TRD or the Nissan 4x4 Nissmo my main concern was long term durability. A few friends with Nissan Pathfinders have had issues with transmission, engine mounts, and steering.

Now reading the link to the Frontier site on the timing chain tensioners, differential issues, etc. I am so glad I am going with the Toyota...

i owned a nismo frontier for awhile, at the time it had more options for a cheaper price than the toyota. plus toyota dealerships in hawaii think they are king dingaling and wont deal. i dont not deal. but i wont get another nissan after that frontier, the rear main seal started leaking after 10K miles, and the turning radius was garbage.
