Seriously debating a Frontier....

and i was looking at the mpgs, seating, brakes,etc.
its pretty clear who the winner is between the two.

tacoma +4 SMARTcar +10

so if you want to see the best car in the world here on TACOMAWORLD.COM i would pick a SMARTcar not a tacoma they are shitty POS's that dont deserve to be on the road...

we talk about tacoma's here not the crappy frontier. having said that get what you want. I love my taco even with the problems, my choice.

Tacoma, Frontier. both are nice trucks! Both are better than a ford.

 

Wow I'm surprised at all the hate here for the OP throwing down his legitimate debate. I'm sure most of us have been at that point at one point too. Usually this forum is better with this stuff :/

When I was looking I liked both, the Frontier I drove handled pretty well for a d-cab long bed, and the sales guy even let me take it out to a dirt construction lot with some hills to play around with the 4wd a bit (not much but still cool he recommended it). I've had an Infiniti G35 int he past (Nissan) with the hopped up sporty version of the VQ35 which is an extremely solid and fun motor. The boxed frame is a plus too. That said...

The Tacoma just feels better on the road, handles better to me, the interior is overall nicer (though I love the Nismo's black interior and wish the Tacoma's had that), the taco's are known to be reliable (even with the nitpicky minor issues some have had... lets face it most of the issues we've had do NOT prevent you from driving the truck at all). I also like the resale value, and overall the Tacoma just feels and looks a lot more badass.

Honestly though, if the Frontiers weren't so hideous on the outside, I'd probably have one in the driveway. Both are solid, either one should serve you well with proper maintenance and not abusing the hell out of it.

 

Being "loyal" to your $$$ does not mean come to another brand name forum and expect NOT to catch $hit...

Does Toyota pay me??? .HE!! yes, by selling me GREAT products for over 20+ years with 1/2 of those going over the 100k without a major hitch..

Re-framing my '02 and giving me another 15 years warranty...

That is why TOYOTA folks are loyal;to a fault...oh well.....

They have NEVER re-invented themselves or "Ducked" from controversy,What other MFG... does what they do to rectify problems ( and PLEASE do not play dumb and say they have more )..

Yes Datsun ( Nissan ) has come along way ,so again it is your $$$...good luck with your choice and I hope it is better than coming to TW and asking for opinions....

I've owned two Nissans, most recently an '05 Altima 3.5SE. Both were garbage attached to good engines. My Altima was gone at 28k miles after 4 service visits in 6 months for trans. problems. I then decided I wanted a truck and test drove a Frontier just for the hell of it. You know what I drive now.

If you like the Frontier, go for it but prepare for the aggravation. Maybe you'll get lucky, who knows.

Btw, dude mentioned the higher HP of the Frontier. Well, why is it slower than the Tacoma?

 

Cause that power to weight ratio I figured out before.....

 

I never took the frontier for a test drive but I thought it had more room when the kids and myself sat in it. It had a bit more room for passengers because I felt the seat backs were thinner or not as padded as the rear seats of the taco. Also, I don't think it had a sliding rear window. Not 100% on that. It felt more rugged interior wise because. I just kept coming back to the tacoma since it had lots more features. IMO.

 

I know, it was rhetorical. Every time someone posts on here about a Frontier we hear how much HP it has so I of course I have to throw in my $.02.

I noticed this, but have not found the (heavily reinforced) C-channel frame to be any detriment.

I drove them back-to-back on the same day. The Tacoma felt like it had more power. It accelerated much quicker on the same on-ramp, and was more responsive when passing on the highway.

So, same.

When I compared them, Tacoma had a higher MPG rating.

Toyota would deal on my Tacoma. Nissan had a hard time even finding one similarly equipped, and then couldn't come close to matching the Tacoma price.

Frontier had more comfortable seats than the Tacoma.

Ultimately, the trucks were very similar. I would probably have been happy in either of them. I chose Tacoma due to previous experience with Toyota trucks, and a slightly better impression of the Tacomas I test drove.

 

I traded my 2006 Frontier 2wd LE in on my 2008 Tacoma DC 4x4 TRD OR.

I prefer Toyota but would buy a Nissan again too.

My Nissan was faster than my Dodge Hemi!!!

This was my previous truck; it died last Jan. when my g/f accidently ran it into a rock in the desert.
Nissan makes a great truck, and with it's fully boxed frame, metal bed with metal cleats, an actual bed light (taco does not have this, drives me nuts), more HP and less money. So what gives?? Why are we paying more for a toyota truck with less?
After owning 2 nissan trucks I know why: Nissan does not apply the same build quality as a toyota. Both of my nissans creaked and rattled all day, the seat, the jump in the rear never full stayed up, the diff leaked, went through a transmission. Everytime I took that truck off road it came home with a new sound; My current toyota truck is quiet as a mouse-and look at my sig!

I personally prefer the style of the nissan, but toyota makes a better quality vehicle.

 

well if u plan to offroad in stock form the tacoma has more ground clearance and better departure angles than the frontier , besides tacomas are better looking than frontiers and dont forget the resale value on tacos

 

I just bought my taco in Aug but i also looked at frontiers. Test drove both but preferred the taco

 

I can't believe everyone is getting so ass hurt over this. Keep in mind guys he only looks new. He left when he sold his truck and now returned because this is normally a good site with useful info.

When looking for a truck to live with not shopping around is a crazy thought. I had a Tacoma wanted a new one. Decided to shop around. Checked out the Titans and Nismo. Titan was too much and yet not what I wanted. Nismo was nice all around when I test drove it. However when I went back and felt the Tacoma I knew it was what I wanted. I didn't like the lack of power my 02 had, along with the Mpg that was horrible. I now know there was an issue that toyota didn't fix so I sold an otherwise great truck but who cares I ended up in my 07 and love it. Either way good luck with your choice.

 

My son in law has the nismo, gets a steady 18mpg. My access cab stays at 22mpg. We both are easy on the throttle. Our only fooling around race left me the winner from 0 to about 70, at 2 car lengths. We figuire his 4 door is heavier than my access. Both run very well.
