Recently took my 17 Tacoma in for 5K service. I chose our family service adviser. When I went over my Dashcam footage, I heard him bashing me for buying at Autonation Toyota instead of Atlanta Toyota. Any reason why he’d be hesitant to be my advisor?

They can bitch and moan all they want, but at the end of the day they still have a service to perform and meet Toyota's expectations. Sucks he might treat you unfairly..
next visit I would nonshelaunty say "I should have bought this truck from Atlantic instead of XYZ" and see what he says

Obviously you didn't trust them if you had the dash cam on.

You mean he didn’t trust them if he had to review the footage on the cam.

Next time you take it in for service just say "By the way, the reason I bought from Autonation instead of here was they gave me a much better deal" and walk away!

I had a similar situation when my truck was in for service. You could hear the service people bashing me for having a dash cam. My dash cam is set to also come on when it senses movement so even though they didn't have the truck on all the time it still kept capturing things. I did mention it to the service manager as I had checked the footage because I was concerned about if they had done a particular part of service on my truck. It isn't like my dash cam is hidden and when it senses movement the screen on it comes on so you know it is recording.

If you like to monkeywrench, bring it up with him and ask how and when will he bash you for taking your truck to get serviced at the other dealership.

Also... people just yap to get through this long tedious life until the long dirt nap for eternity. Unless you suspect you're not actually getting the service requested, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't want to be your advisor (I don't know what family service advisor though).

Frankly, you bought your truck from another place because it's a business/consumer transaction. Not a family or friendship. If he wants to take your relationship to another level, at least have him buy enough dinners to make up the cost differential.

Does anyone really "trust" a dealership anyway? I know some people on here work for dealerships and are quick to defend them, and I'm sure not all of them fit the negative mold that so many others are cast in, but I've had one too many poor experiences with being treated like crap by a dealership to ever just blindly give them my trust.

I have had one or two service advisors over the years with local dealerships that I've built a relationship with and learned to place my trust in, but they inevitably move on to other opportunities and you're stuck having to sift through the dirt again to find a diamond in the rough. Been my experience anyhow.

People don't like AN because they are massive and they buy up the small dealers. They are looked at as family business killers. That's likely why he was bashing you. It's like if you bought a TV from Wal Mart instead of the local appliance store in town.

I am going to say it again. New car dealerships are franchises just like MacDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell or Ace Hardware--they are NOT factory stores. If you buy a Toyota from Autonation then Atlanta Toyota does not get a dime from the sale¹--this make you persona non grata (Latin: "a person not appreciated") in their little world. They are not Toyota employees, Toyota representatives or Toyota agents; i.e. they have no special loyalty to Toyota or for the most part at the lower echelons to Toyota's success--and especially you as you did not buy from them.

    ---------------------------------
¹ - Actually they do have a dog in the fight because they get advertising benefits (direct and national), posters/banners/etc., dealer incentives, and other kickbacks funded from the national and regional pools--however their tiny brains are too feeble to comprehend this so your buying at Autonation is perceived as an affront.
