Service reminders a bit too early, anyone?

Anyone else getting service reminders way too early?

I bought my 16' Access Cab SR5 on March 9. In May, I got a call from the dealership about setting up 5,000 mile/6 month service appointment. I was nice and let the caller know that the truck wasn't even three months old yet and didn't have anywhere near 5,000 miles. I don't drive it a whole lot because I also have a couple of motorcycles I use for commuting. So, I doubt I'd have 5,000 miles at 6 months, but we could still do the service then.
We set up an early Sept. appointment and ended the call.
Yesterday, I got a postcard from ToyotaCare / Toyota Program Headquarters,
"Oops! Looks like you missed your
6 month or 5,000 mile service,
    Eddie.
    - Jan"

I called 1-800-331-4331 listed in the fine print at the bottom of the back of the card.
Long story short, they had my purchase date as March 7 when it wasn't even delivered to the lot until March 8. I explained about the reminder call I got in May and the customer service rep. opened a case # for me with instructions to call back and refer to it should I get any more reminders in error. I'm glad she did that as I had this odd feeling the error could come back to haunt me should I have an issue later: "Well, you missed your service appointments."

As a precaution, I called the dealership and the service writer I spoke with said he gets them (way early reminders) all the time, even on his own vehicle. I told him about the case # and he reassured me things would be okay. No worries.
    I hope so.

That seems like a whole ton of work, I would have just ignored it all and gone in when I needed to.

No need to worry about "missing" a service appointment affecting potential issues. All your parts are warrantied provided the recommended maintenance is followed, whether toyota does it or not.

Great problem to have they could just not call..I'm sure they are using some generic program that estimates miles you should have

Life should be simplified, not driven by the behest of a car manufacturer. I bought my truck used, still had Toyocare.

They'll only see me for warranty work or TSBs.

Just ignore the phone calls and toss the mailers in the trash.

Set up your appointment when you are ready for the work to be done.

I received a phone call wanting to schedule my 6 month/5000 mile service one week after I had already had that service done.

Actually, my Freightliner gets serviced every 50k, so a 700 mile warning is too late! Lol

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
With the Toyota, I could just see me "missing a service" according to them when the reality is it didn't need it yet.
Something would happen and I didn't have service records of my own (because it didn't need it) and they didn't have any because I missed the service.
Only the odometer would save me at that point.

Automated stuff's weird. I traded a 2010 Kia Soul in on a 2014 Mazda 3. About a year later, I got a card in the mail from the dealership asking if I still had my Soul because they'd really like to have one, etc... I called the # and jokingly told the guy, "You've already got my Kia, but if you want to gimme trade-in $ for again, I'm game!" We both laughed and he took my car's info off the list or whatever.

    Update to the original post:

When I made the appointment back in May with the selling dealership for the 1st service, I specifically asked if I'd get a reminder for it.
    "Yes", they said.
An appointment was made then for either Sept. 5 or 6.
Fast forward to Aug. 29. I never got a reminder.
I couldn't remember and had misplaced the note I'd written.
So, I called yesterday, Aug. 29, and asked them to confirm the date & time next week.
They had no record of my appointment!

I am glad I can't find the note I made. Otherwise, I'd have gotten up way early to drive the 40+ miles to be there at 7:30am only to be told I had no appointment.
I remember specifically telling them I would not be dropping my truck off, I'd be waiting because I had no way to get there & back due to the time & distance and the service writer made a note of it in the system. Yesterday, a new appointment was made for 7:30am on Sept. 5th.
    {I have half an inclination to call this Friday to confirm it and see what they say.}

After the call ended, I turned around and wrote my salesman to see what his take was on the subject. He reassured me I would not have been turned away had I just showed up
and that the service didn't have to be right on 6 months/5,000 miles. Okay, cool. I suggested to him that any system which could remind me early by four months then lose my appointment could also reflect me coming in way too late and that would not look right for my warranty/service records later on.

    Stay tuned, campers!

PS: I shoulda known something was going to go sideways. With no real chance of rain for several days, I washed & detailed the truck Sunday.
    It thunderstormed yesterday afternoon. LOL

The dealers are in a hurry to get you into service so they can find SOMETHING to make money off you for.... but just don't expect them to fix or check much of anything under warranty. Low trans fluid, Vibes, Hood Shakes, Howling Rear Ends, etc. That stuffs all normal for the vehicle anyway  Shit they even pushed back on the transmission software update TSB for a good portion of folks.

I haven't heard a peep from anyone at Toyota since I bought mine. (3/4/2016) I guess 6 months is just a few days away, but I still only have 3,400 miles on mine.

    To recap what took place:
I bought my 2016 SR5 Access cab in March.
Less than 90 days later, I got a postcard reminder saying I was about due for my 6month/5k mile service.
I called and told the dealership service department that I had <1/2 that many miles and the 6 month interval wasn't until September.
They said not to worry. The reminders are based upon an average annual mileage, etc...
A month or so later, I got another postcard saying I'd missed my 6 month/5k mile service.
I called corp. Toyota for answers and was again told not to worry. They actually gave me a case number for my complaint.
I hung up, called my dealership and made an appointment for September 5th. I explicitly asked if I'd get a reminder? Yes, I would.
    Okay. Cool.

Aug. 29, a week away from the service, I still hadn't gotten a reminder. So, I called. They had no record of the appointment.
I was very clear that I would not have been a happy camper if I'd driven 46 miles to find out my appointment didn't exist.
No worries, they said, and make another appointment for the same day and time.
Aug 30 I get a call to say my appointment had bene canceled because their service department was closed on Labor Day.
They rescheduled me for Sept. 6th. I called my salesman and he was not aware the shop was closed on Monday and checked it out for me.
    Yep. Closed.

    Yesterday, Sept 6th:
I arrived at the dealership at 07:25 for the 07:30 appointment. They checked me in and I took a seat in the waiting area. 50 minutes later, I was told it was ready.
I got my receipt (no charge) and examined the list of services performed. In two places with asterisks **, it said 5,000 mile service. Oil not changed, etc...
Which is fine. I changed it myself early and the truck still doesn't have even 4,000 miles on it.
What did they do? The multi-point inspection, fluid level checks and balance & rotate the tires.
Basically, I drove 100 miles to have my tires rotated.
On the way home, maybe 5 minutes down the highway, I selected the tire pressure monitor display.
    They'd overinflated all four tires.
All of them showed 38psi (Instead of 32-33psi) which rapidly went to 40psi the remainder of the drive.
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
