Hello all, long time lurker, finally hit a snag I couldn't solve with the search button:

In the middle of a timing belt service on a 5VZ with 290,000 miles, just finished cleaning the mating surface for the water pump on the block and found some of the worst pitting I've ever come across. How have some of you solved this or successfully reassembled without leaks? I've seen others solve this with a bit of RTV on the block side of the MLS gasket, but in all other cases I could find, the pitting wasn't nearly this bad. I'm afraid a little RTV won't cut it. I'd appreciate your ideas.IMG_20211114_171604336.jpg IMG_20211114_171615832.jpg

I would think the normal gasket with a gasket maker sealer would work.

That's not that bad, coat the gasket with some blue hylomar and she'll be fine.

Thank you both for the reassurance and ideas. I've been panicking since I saw the pitting. You prefer blue hylomar to the permatex for water pumps?

The permatex works well too, its a metal gasket so either should accomplish the task.

If you have this stuff it should get it done just fine
