I am not jealous of your weather, a few days ago it was in the high teens at night and that was cold enough for me although I still did go running in it but tomorrow it is supposed to be back close to 80F here.

All I've got is crazy temperature fluctuations. -11 yesterday and -7 this morning; tomorrow's high is supposed to be 45 and rainy. Then on Friday we're supposed to be back to 0 overnight.

Here's some poor cows up in Hollister:

BART (local subway) was shut down earlier due to debris in the track. Here's how much an Uber ride costs when you take away one of San Francisco's biggest means of transportation.

HA! That sucks. I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. We had 3 feet of snow up there that just wouldn't slide off because it was too cold out. Then one day I came home from work, and....

It canted the shed over far enough that the doors were jammed shut, lol. I had to go in with the tractor and scoop the snow out one bucketful at at time to get the weight off of the shed before I could get into it.

    Poor cows.
Damn. I'm a little jealous. It's currently 62° here the little snow we had is long gone. I like the cold and snow.

It was announced this morning that the drought in Northern California is over after a good 10 years. It's been raining like hell for the past week or two.

EDIT: I'm almost certain it was due to the El Nino Effect that's been going on for most of 2016 continuing into this year. It's been raining A LOT this season.

The drought in the whole state isn't completely over. Southern California was much much worse in terms of drought. According to KCBS on my way to school this morning they said only Northern Cali's drought was over. It's been a lot more rainy and wet also due to the El Nino effect during 2016 and this year. It's been raining a lot this season, much more than previous years.

A lot of our reservoirs are above historic average, I believe one (I can't remember the name) is at 104% capacity. Somewhere up north.

I haven't used my windshield wipers in so long before 2016 that the rubber on them stated to deteriorate already. Lol.

I guarantee that drought is not over. The reservoirs may be filled but the aquifer definitely has not been replenished and that is what needs to be. It would take years of average rain to recharge the aquifer.

Eh. Maybe KCBS is getting ahead of theirselves. It's just what I heard on the radio and a bunch of colleagues this morning.

Here's a news article on the topic: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Storms-Drought-California-Rain-Snowpack-410516095.html

Like they said this morning, they said half the state, or 40% of the state (Northern California) is out of the drought. Here's a diagram I pulled off of that NBC article.

    01-12-2017-drought-map-6.jpg

According to droughtmonitor.unl.edu, the areas in white are completely out of drought. Sure the groundwater/aquifiers may have not completely recovered, but the area isn't considered to be in a drought anymore.

Tahoe has gotten a fair amount of snow in the last week! Numbers are in inches... 10ft + in 6 days in a few areas.

So not in drought but aquifers not recovered....
What does that mean? The ground has moisture but the wells are empty?
Still alarming for the amount of agriculture out there.
For living in a state that has so much desert, you guys don't seem to take fresh water supplies very seriously at all.

Takes years (decades and centuries) to replenish groundwater supplies. Water rights are a whole different concept on the west coast versus east coast.

Edit: in the US I mean.
