Meh. We lose power pretty regularly, so I keep a good supply of oil lamps and fuel on hand. Wood is our primary heat source anyway, I've got a hand pump set up in the cellar, and the wood cookstove has a hot water reservoir for doing dishes and bathing.
The biggest inconvenience when we lose power is that if it's out for more than a couple of days I've got to run the generator for an hour or so every couple of days to keep the freezers cold.

    Edit-
Plus, all the ice on everything was at least pretty to look at.

And we got power back eventually, lol.

Evidence of Be Careful What You Wish For. After years of drought we have been getting hammered by rain lately. The spillway of one reservoir got, washed out/sink hole/whatever you call it, and had to be closed off. Now they say there is 3 days of fill capacity before the reservoir is completely full. There is an emergency spill over if the water gets to the top, however they say it isn't lined with concrete all the way down so the water would undercut the ground and potentially start washing away part of the dam. It will be interesting to see how this gets handled.

Probably with lots of bureaucratic panicking, finger pointing about improper maintenance, and then a lot of "not our fault" when it's pointed out that there hasn't been any funding for maintenance.

I'm pretty bummed about this winter so far. I like legit seasons and we haven't had that last couple winters. Especially this winter. Seriously lacking in snow so far. Pretty lame.

That pic of the spillway is of Lake Oroville, here in N Kalifornia. Water in the creek thru my property goes there. Pic from last month of my creek.

I'm building for a client and we usually have rain in winter and not snow that hangs around

Creek is up is all, down in the valley they have more to worry about. We've had a few rock slides in the Feather River canyon. Lake Oroville will reach capacity next couple days, they are worried that releases will erode that spillway more. If the emergency spillway, made of dirt is used, they can't control the water. Per the news. Amazing all this water has filled Lake Oroville, it was waaaaaay down.

Local weather station's updated forecast for snowfall from today (And I think it's still going to be a little off; we've got over a foot already and it's still snowing like gangbusters):

    And the extended forecast:

There is some minor drifting going on now.

We're getting some crazy drifts out there right now. Probably half of the snow in the air right now is just stuff being blown around.

We got a good 12" to 14" here north of Worcester Ma. Some spots are bare where others spots are drifts to 2 feet.

The lake breached a dike that was topped by a road. Once the water started flowing erosion took over and the entire lake drained into the Wisconsin River, taking several houses with it.

I've heard more than one news station already forecasting at least 20" for our storm on Monday, with 30"+ being a strong possibility.

    :bananadance:

Looks like I should probably give the old plow truck a quick once-over this weekend, then...
