You almost managed to use every variation of 'there' in the wrong way in one sentence. Impressive.

Water 4" higher than the sidewalk right now.

Currently the rains have stopped. But another band should be coming in soon. Water is about knee high in the street right now.

Have my bug out bag ready and a plan on where to go.

Thanks. Going to bed now. Will wake up at 2 to check the water levels and rain bands. Pretty much sleep in a few hour blocks just to be sure. We're predicted to get 10" of rain today.

So I made it through last night's rains. Saw the water line that made it to the mailbox in the front yard. Pucker factor 7/10.

    This was in 40 minutes
    [IMG]

    It got higher than this
    [IMG]

Since I didn't get much sleep, I got some things loaded in the truck so that I could do some checkups on some friends houses.

First up, a friend that is working in the medical center and had been there since Friday. She didn't think she would be there that long, and didn't leave enough food for her cats. And she didn't leave a key with anyone, and her boyfriend is stuck in the woodlands. So I scoped out her place, and fortunately the cats were sitting in the window.

Luckily they looked fine, but were curious as to why I wasn't coming in.

Next stop, another friend. He's in Austin right now and wanted to come back. His seemed all clear.

I decided to check out my friend's house that's next to White Oak bayou. They said there was some flooding in their subdivision. When I got there, the water had gone down both in the bayou and on the property. So I called them up so they could come over and get whatever they needed to before it could get worse.

    Some roads had this

    Current bayou level
    [IMG]

    Water line around their house
    [IMG]

And in we went. Took two of us to open the front door
    [IMG]

It was pretty gnarly inside. Things had shifted around so much, they couldn't believe it. My grandmother had to go through this a few years ago, so I knew what it would be like and made my recommendations on what do to. so we got to work. They grabbed photos off the walls, clothes, and things for their dogs. After that, we up-righted one of the fridges, but emptied both. We opened the appliances to drain out the water. Using a push broom, we were able to get most of it back out the front door. We also picked up the various food items that had floated around the house and threw them away. Photos were taken of everything, we wiped ourselves down with clorox wipes and we left.

My friend with the two cats at her house called and said she was able to leave the hospital today, but wasn't sure about road conditions. So I did some driving around to check for her. All was clear. The Buffalo Bayou is still flooded

I just got back home not too long ago.

So with that being said, I consider myself very lucky. Knowing my friends will have to go through the hell of post flooding is horrible. But for now, I'm going to be around the house in case some other friends have issues with their homes.

It sucks. Because it'll be a few weeks until things get rolling. So they're without a home right now. Lucky they're at a friends and can easily walk here for stuff if they need it as well.

More rain on the way, too! And the wind is picking up.

So it may be touch and go for a few more days. Especially since my area has 28" of rainfall already.

They're launching boats up north and surrounding areas to get people from their homes. Plus military helicopters have been making rounds around the neighborhoods to look for people in trouble.

CB radio is set to 9.

So far, just the siphoning issue around where I live is all I know about.

Damn. Sorry to see your friends house that messed up. Hoping for quick recovery of property loss for everyone. I can't imagine having to deal with that.

Holy shit. I can see the sun and blue sky. Now we can get to fixing this city.

Some homes won't be accessible for months.

I've stated gathering clothes, blankets and food for a drop off.

And I think I'll install that snorkel on Thursday. :anonymous:

Keep an eye on Irma, folks! The track seems to be shifting southwest and Florida MIGHT be right in the way!
