Sadly, the Euro model is usually the more accurate.

We are supposed to have tropical storm winds here in Charlotte. Tough to imagine.

Sheesh, that puts the path rolling right over me in northwest GA. That would suck. Fingers crossed... if no trees fall on the truck, I should be good. But my access road will probably require 4WD if we get that much rain: it's 3/4 mile dirt/gravel with 250' rise (concentrated in 2 short steeps). I am sure we will have at least a few trees fall over the road if we get sustained winds. My saws are gonna get a workout. Good thing I am taking vacation the next 2 weeks...

Last week, we had a T-storm, and a 6" thick, 15' long branch blew out of the top of a mature oak tree, and went straight through the carport roof like an arrow! It barely touched the truck, but left not a scratch. Hopefully that luck holds out.

My forecast in Southern Kentucky is for 20-30- M.P.H. Winds and rain on Tuesday Morning. And that's from Wunderground...I have 3 miles of gravel road AND a low bridge across the river between me and the pavement, so it's a trip to town this weekend to go shopping just in case we get some trees across the road...

Weren't here in '89 for Hugo, huh?

I was in 2nd grade. I still remember trees and power lines down everywhere, no electricity for two weeks, my dad taking a bucket to the creek in the woods for water to flush the toilets...

So, I'm fairly certain the pretty faces on the Weather Channel are collectively functionally retarded. Stephanie Abrams and Jenn Carfagno were talking about the long evacuation times and stations being out of gas. The conversation turned to after the storm when there is gas in the tanks but no power to the pumps. The conversation went something like this (I was listening while packing, so I don't know exactly which said what, so I'll reference as DB - Ding Bat and AH - Air Head).

DB: Maybe one day they will figure out a manual pump system to use when there is no power
AH: Or maybe a battery system
DB: Even better, when people start driving battery powered cars
    AH: Yeah. I agree

Okay. So let's break this down. These brain trusts think that the best mode of transportation during a widespread power grid disruption is electric vehicles...

I can't watch the forecast news. When they had it playing at the brewery, I'd get them to switch it off to something that makes more sense. Thank god Syfy had decent shows.
