Not a bad idea! The Googlemaps show the traffic mostly O.K. except on I-75 north of Wildwood...

Just my opinion, but I would rather head for the center of the state where it's going to be less of a chance of flooding then staying on an island that's 6' above sea level with a 12-15' Storm Surge predicted...there has to be gas SOMEWHERE in Florida...

@greeneggsnspam how are you guys in Houston doing? How's the recovery going? Has the flooding gone down? I haven't hear anything lately.

Considering the fact that this monster is much wider then the entire state of Florida, a shift of a couple of miles by the eye one direction or the other isn't going to make a massive difference. Basically, anything south of Alligator Alley is in risk of storm surge and extreme rain, and the drainage there is basically non-existent, being roughly at sea level. And they better hope the retaining walls around Lake Okeechobee hold...

That's when it gets dangerous. People become apathetic. It doesn't help when there is so much hype over the power, then the storm dials back a notch or two. Yeah, it dropped from 185mph to 130, but that's still a cat 4. Just because it won't be as bad as it could have been, doesn't mean it won't be bad.

On a side note, I'm about to jump on the road to Daytona. Y'all stay safe.
