Severe Weather thread.

LOL, a quick 6 to 8 inches and everything shuts down here. But that's because the city's public works can't keep up.

I'm of driving in the snow with no one around. I love driving in the snow, problem is everyone else driving in it who can't.

Post up some pics when you get some of that crazy stuff, would love to see it.

 

Ill look through the computer and see of I can find a few pictures of the snowstorms we get. We usually have one or two storms that dump multiple feet of snow and the a few more that lay down a foot or more.

When the rain rain freezes/turns to heavy heavy snow and there's wind involved this is what happens...



We've had this happen two years in a row. In the exact same spot. This one fell about 15 seconds after I walked down the steps

 

This past year we received over 800" of snow at the top of the ski resort. At the base which is at sea level we got around 300"...

And two years ago I think we got 950"....

Yeahhhh if you don't like snow it's not the best place to live

 

Driving fresh powder is awesome.

My wife and I were up there last spring. It was amazing. I want to live there so bad.

 

We moved up here about nine years ago and I can't imagine living anywhere else. Even in those nine years we've barely even scratched the surface as far as exploring the state.

 

We did the normal touristy crap and that was great, but I'm sure there is tons more that is even better off the beaten path.

 

There really is. Even though so little of the state is covered by the road system, you could spend yearssss exploring things just from your truck.

 

I'll bet. I kept wanting to go exploring in our rental, but my wife wouldnt let me. It was a Jeep Compass, so its trail rated right? lol.

 

Seems legit

Whenever we have family come up we always try to have them stay at least two weeks. And that still is never enough time to show them even 10% of the state

We were running around like crazy and were there for 10 days. Flew into Anchorage, drove to denali for a few days, back to anchorage then off to Seward for a few days then it was time to go. Had a great time, and we're for sure going back. Maybe next time we will stay for the rest of our lives.

 

That's not uncommon at all. If you ask around a good chunk of people will tell you they came for a visit and never left.

 

I'd love to visit that state at some point. Ever since I used to watch the show Northern Exposure I've wanted to LOL. Is cost of living as expensive as "they" say it is up there?

 

Well considering I'm just out of highschool I'm not too qualified to answer that question costs of living are definitely higher I'd say, but how much I really don't know. Gas is $3.90/gallon if that gives any comparison.

We do have the permanent fund dividend which is free money given to each resident once a year. That amount is anywhere from $600-$2000.

I would of thought gas would be higher. That's not much higher than here. I just saw a survey or something that said its the most expensive place to live or something like that.

 

Yep it's a divedend paid out to each resident in October each year. It's based off of oil production and investments and profit off the permanent fund averaged over the last five years and yada yada yada... Point is.. Yes, it's free money
