Thanks! Fire hose may be an understatement. I added the extension porch, AC register, and floor insulation, and currently working on the rain fly and travel cover. Here are some new pics.

It's my first time sewing but I have a lot of experience building things and used to be a machinist... thanks!

Wow, great thread here! Glad I found it, and glad to know there are other people that drive trucks and sew!
I work in the outdoor industry, specifically in soft goods/cut and sew. I picked up sewing a couple years ago to supplement my work and because one can never have too many hobbies...

Here's some bike bags I've made for friends -

Nice, cool ideas for bikes. I bet your bags are stronger than the ones you can buy.

I am in the process of putting screens in my shell windows. I am attaching it with sticky backed velcro and I want to sew the loop side to the screen. Is there a recommendation as to how to best do this? Should I sew a backing to the velcro strip? Thanks.

I would think that the velcro should have enough body to it to be fine by itself. Plus if you make it too stiff it wouldn't be able to be rolled up very good if you wanted to take them off.

    Thanks Murph.
Do you think the thread would have enough to "bite" into with just the velcro on one side?

I would definitely have some folds of material (netting) under the velcro. You might look at the video's Sailrite has on youtube because they probably have a video about that very task.

The prodigal son returns! I think you're good without a backer. If it's a heavy screen material like the stuff I've worked with it'll be plenty strong. Perhaps if it's the really light no-see-um type screen, but not for heavy stuff. Just put 2 lines down each side with ~1/8" seam allowance, or as close to the edge as you can reasonably manage. If it's wider stuff like 2" or wider then I'd run 3 stitches but I doubt your velcro is that wide.

What kind of screen material are you working with? a No-see-um mesh like you would find on a tent? or actual screen material you'd find on a home window? I always get worried when velcro and mesh fabric get too close.. velcro tends to stick to mesh and break it down pretty rapidly over time. If possible, sew a border using a different material on the mesh screen fabric where the loop will be attached. That way, the thread will have a stronger bite to the mesh screen and this border material will also prevent the mesh from breaking down if the connection to the hook is not perfect every time. I can provide a drawing if my words don't exactly make sense...

    Excellent.
I am using pet screen for the task, so it will be plenty heavy enough.

You could also run a binding tape around the outside to give it a little more grip too. Just go over everything including the velcro.

That was my first idea actually. But I wouldn't have overlapped the screen. That is a great idea.
