    Of course there is.
    Reminds me of a story......
I used to live in a two story house where my friends lived in the first floor and my roommate and I on the second floor. One morning, Russ (downstairs housemate) urgently runs up the stairs to tell us, "You gotta see this!!". So my roommate and I think, cool, must be something great, as Russ is not the running type. He tells us to look in the shitter and says, "Have you ever seen something so big??!!"
He was so proud of himself.
    What a douche!

    Nope sorry :(

In the process of moving into a house. Once I'm in I'll have an entire basement ripe for being a project room. Saving up for a walking foot!

It isn't a new project, I'm sure I posted it back in the archives. But I got pictorial proof of use from my friend using it hunting in Idaho!

Nicely done. Quick question, is your bed rack not painted in the OP? Why is that?

Thanks! Because I was more interested in making the topper than I was cleaning/painting a rack lol. It has since been painted.

Finally moved into a new house and have room to sew the tipi. Also, getting married in June and will be making hammocks for a lot of the guests (they can camp for 2 days at the lodge we are getting married at).

Anyways, I need a sewing table and decided to just make a basic one. I was going to do a full sheet of plywood supported my 4x4s (think work bench) and then add shelves later. The sewing machine will be nested in the right hand corner so I have lots of room for cutting/measuring.

My question for you guys is narrow vs wide tables. I have only sewn on a dining table but actual sewing tables are always narrow. Is it better to have a narrow table?

I can't help you with the table size, because I don't sew. Just here for the awesome stuff everyone on here makes.

Growing up I've only seen the mom and grandma sew on the dining table.

My two cents worth. A wider one is hard to reach over to do 'something' or anything. I'm thinking 18-20 inches but not more than 24 would work well. And if for some reason you need wider it wouldn't take too much to add an out rigger.

Since you have a specific project (and will be overwhelmed by TW members for their own duplicate) how about making a project specific surface. Maybe something with the machine sort of centered (long ways) and a cutout in order for you to get close to the action and still have the material support surface available on both sides of the machine. Clear as mud, right. PM me you mail address I'll send you a sketch.

Lol, I think I have an idea of what you are saying but I could be wrong.

Anyways, today I built it (partly). I am not a wood worker and I wasn't trying to bring out a pretty table, but dang, it's better than I thought it could be. We made an error on the table top and need another 2x12.

Super sturdy and pretty level. Waiting for a better sander before finishing it up. I'll make the cut out for the sewing machine soon. I need to rethink the design because this will also be a card table for game nights. I'll have to make a fill plate or not do the cut out.

Looks good. I vote in favor of an inset for the machine; reason being it's really nice to rest your forearms on a surface that's on the same plane as the machine working surface. I know this because once I had a 'portable' Singer, used it on the kitchen table. It was awkward and uncomfortable. Might want to think about some formica on the top for slick.

I'd like to get more into sewing. This winter I did a few projects. My wife's leather boots were in need of some work so I resealed them with Snoseal, a beeswax based waterproofing. I also noticed the thread was coming undone from where the zipper is. It's the type of stitching that has two threads, one on each side of the material, one thread comes through the material, around the other thread, and then back through the same hole. I am completely unsure what type of stitching it is but I was able to figure it out by looking at the rest of the boot and redid it by hand. I'd say it turned out pretty well! Not great, but it'll prevent further separation.20171221_120302.jpg received_10155249616623063.jpg

I also completed a leather bound journal. It was a kit at Michael's that had all the pieces, I just needed to stamp and dye the leather. I used the Snoseal to seal this as well. 20171220_171118.jpg

All in all very basic but I am very pleased with how it all turned out.

I've talked with my wife about getting a sewing machine. I'd love to be able to hem my own pants for my short a$$ and do other fun projects. When I was a kid I made a rip stop florescent green napsack to hold all of my camping gear on my dad's sewing machine. I still have, and USE it to this day, 25 years later.

My mother unexpectedly passed away on the 1st. We didn't see this coming but we now know there was nothing we could have done.

My neighbor asked if she could have her sewing machine since her little boy was just starting some projects for 4H. I told her yes and after thinking about it, I decided to take her sewing machine. In part because it was something we have come to bond over the past few years and also because I thought it might be too much machine for him. We instead bought the little boy a basic machine by Brother that would be easier to use. He's been sending me pictures of the napkins and table mats he has already made.

Hers her machine. I never used it but I know it's have high quality and we will for sure put it to work on making hammocks for our wedding party soon.

Sorry to hear about your mother brother. :(

That's a nice Pfaff there! I'm sure you would have regretted giving it away if you had.

On the sewing table definitely go with some formica on the top. When you're sewing the tipi it will bunch up on the table if it's not a smooth slick surface. It will also pull itself out of your way as you sew being on formica. Nice table you built btw.
