you cant take a deposit from someone agree on a price then not honor it . Its a sales agreement . The dealer is not a auction house. And never sign one based on them financing it they will give you the price and charge you a high interest rate.

My next new car purchase. I will look no further than the dealership that bought my 15 Colorado site unseen and sold me my Tacoma for well under MSRP.

TrueCar became Bullshit many many years ago when the Dealers started pulling out because TrueCar was revealing actual dealer cost for vehicles along with sales information.

They changed their business model to get those dealers back and get their $300 a pop. Like Costco and most buying services. They get paid to send customers who buy. Today's Invoice prices are a sham as well. In 1995 Invoice prices were 7-10% LOWER than they are today.

I don't think dealers gave up those 15% margins. In 1993 Toyota had a 16% spread between Invoice and MSRP. THAT is the number TrueCar used PLUS Holdback. Dealers dropped them for revealing those numbers.

So Manufacturers began the long slow process of "thinning the front end margins" so customers who had "Invoice" only effectively had a $7% discount.

Today we see the Invoice which shows a smaller margin and dealers who cry they aren't making anything BS. Dealers are still making the 15% margins at MSRP. So buying at Invoice is not a big deal today because it's a false Invoice price.

My Honda dealer said they could sell at Invoice all day long and still make 7% or more. That is why I start at the known invoice and move up. I know they are still making their margins on the back end through bonuses and more bonuses.

Invoice is not what the dealer pays. It's about 7% less than that minus Holdback.

THAT is how relationships are made. That dealer should give you a great price next time around as well. Its all about Relationship building.

Anyone who has been in or worked for a sales organization knows they have their "Special" people who get great deals and their walk ins who pay MSRP. When a "hot" vehicle is released like the new Tacoma, the long term customer will usually get a great deal. Some dealers out here just quote Invoice through Email. Because they are 79 miles away and know they only have one shot at you. I chose to pass that dealer and pay a tad more to buy locally. The GoodWill is worth the $500 more I spent.

Not completely true. Been following the deal threads here and some TW members have a bad experience even if they or their family were long time customers. Dealers just see the almighty dollar and think short term. The people to blame are the gotta have it nows, but I can't blame them, thats how the world works. Every product has them. Its like spending money on lap dances at a strip club, your balls do all the talking.

He said he couldn't make a deal over the phone and I should come in. I figured they were finally ready to play ball. Nope apparently my walking away from their initial deal lead them to believe that a higher price was more appealing. Not sure where they got that idea.

I gave a deposit but they said they couldn't say how much exactly until the order was accepted, etc. etc. I put a refundable deposit down so that we can get the process started. Anyway when I kept pushing for it in writing that's when it went up. Im sure they wouldn't have told me until the car arrived if I hadn't pushed.

A man is only as good as his word. I will get the truck regardless somewhere else. But they lost a customer, and we have done business with them prior. We bought my wifes Scion there and would have continued to do business with them for many years I am sure if it wasn't for this. A couple grand pales in comparison to the amount of money I would have given them over my lifetime. It's too bad they are too short sighted to see that.

    No not Culver City.

I agree. Tried using True Car, its a phishing site. Every dealer "just sold the car" moments before you called. but they do have another one but not for that price. total scam.

Sorry to hear about your experience. $3K over MSRP sounds crazy! Suggest you contact Dean at Toyota West in Columbus, OH. I called him after reading a post from another user in CA who worked with him on a deal. I'm located in Central OH and made a deal with him for a TRD OR for $3K under MSRP that is arriving in about 4 wks. Seems like you could do a lot better even with having the car shipped to where you reside.

say for example a taco 2016 AC with 3.5L TRD Sport package M
for example, a TRD Sport 3.5 L AC msrp is 37232 so the invoice is 15% than sticker price 31647.20 other words the dealer pays 29431.91 right? the holdback is roughly 800 bucks.

who in Austin? I placed an order last week for $2K under MSRP and they acted like I was robbing the place.
I used the USAA truecar print out and they acted like it was just a bunch of made numbers that don't really amount to much and how they are loosing money by selling to me for $2K under MSRP

They aren't losing money - they just aren't making as much as they want. Check your PM.

SoCal, $800 under msrp, $37,500. I believe certain models are being "not" ordered in order to increase demand and as a result they ask more money and won't discount. Just my opinion.

We have no way of knowing what the dealer actually pays for a vehicle but I am probably in good company who believes the of 7% or so we don't see on the "Invoice" is now going to the manufacturer's. Dealers are still getting it but in other ways,

The bottomline are the "comps" Like in Real Estate people will have to pay what others pay for the same truck. If others are paying MSRP, unless you know somebody or have built a relationship, you are likely to pay the same. Invoice won't matter. In fact in SoCal it doesn't. People are paying full boat and more for these trucks.

They have to pay the holdback to Toyota and they get it back at the end of the quarter.
