I bought a set of wheels and tires off marketplace from a 3rd gen tacoma. The tires looked brand new and it was a great deal. Mounted them on my 14 tacoma and they shake starting around 55. Had them balanced and the issue persists. Took them to another shop and they were rebalanced and they replaced all of the lug nuts. Still didn’t fix the issue. If I put my stock wheels and tires on the truck it rides perfect. Do these wheels just not fit on the 2nd gens?

Also, the shake isn’t consistent. Sometimes it’s smooth at high speeds, other times it shakes like hell.

Did you get a static balance or roadforce balance?

If the tire sizes are the same, you could put all 4 stock wheels on and then add the new wheels one at a time to isolate the wheel with the issue.

I haven’t put the tires on the original rims yet. My suspicion is one of the rims are messed up.

What kind of tires are on the 3rd Gen rims? Are they OEM or replacements? I know sometimes folks have balance issues when they upgrade to certain brands of all/mud terrain tires. A road force balance can help detect if you have a problem tire(s) on hand.

Like @10YSON mentioned I'd also be trying to isolate the problem wheel/tire one at a time.

Road force balance with a tech that actually is trained on the machine and will do the extra work that it sometimes takes.

It will detect a bent wheel or bad tire.

3rd gen wheels fit fine. And unless your 2nd gen lugs had the wrong seat face you didnt need new ones

Static balance is the quick and easy way with weight on one side only, it's rarely sufficient for bigger truck tires

It's needs a dynamic balance (inner/outer weights) at the very least

I don't have any experience with road force balancing but I've heard good things about it

Take a look at the amount of weight on each wheel. If one has a lot more then the others or is counter balanced that’s probably the problem wheel.

Im going out on a limb and state that it's likely reason the seller sold them for cheap, especially if the tires look new. Another recommendation for road force balancing.
