I have a 1997 Toyota Tacoma base model 5speed manual

Why is it shaking when idling as if it’s struggling to stay on?
It only does this when it reaches temperature.

Tune up first. Plugs and wires and clean throttle body. Check grounds. After that be sure fuel items are okay (good fuel, injectors, filter, etc.). If not fixed at that point you can move on to trouble shooting electrical.

Aside from a mechanical issue with the motor causing it to run rougher than it should (failed spark plugs, vacuum leak, etc), the other reason I've felt engines vibrate at idle is from worn or cheap motor mounts. Might be time to replace em - definitely worth checking. If they are the culprit, those are one of the parts that I always recommend going OEM on unless you need upgraded for a specific purpose.

yep this, see if you can have a buddy or a camera set up looking at the engine while going between drive and reverse, if there is a lot of movement when switching then take a look at your motor mounts.
