OK, I promise I used search first.
    2012 4 door -
Can the wires going to the radio from the shark fin be accessed through the shark fin itself, if I was willing to sacrifice the fin?
Or, is there somewhere else that I can access those wires besides pulling out the headliner in back?
I assume if I can get to those wires I can simply tap in a new antennae and mount it somewhere besides underneath my soon to be installed camper?
    Thanks All,
    Tom

Regarding tapping in elsewhere, if you want to just delete it, you can grab the harness at the back of your head unit and plug whatever you want in the fin's place, assuming you even need/use what's in the fin, which in some trucks is literally nothing, and in other trucks is XM/GPS.

"Tapping" antennae is not as simple as a regular low voltage wire splice, depending on how you go about it and what style you want to install. You may need to deal with coaxial cable, and/or find power and space for the XM receiver module if it isn't an integrated unit. I also have no idea if the factory head unit (I assume you have the factory head unit) will take a "standard" XM receiver, or if it needs a specific type. I would assume the former, since there are aftermarket units that can plug into the factory XM antenna via the factory head unit connections in the dash.

Aftermarket head units with GPS usually come with a separate GPS antenna that you can put anywhere. I'm on Team Joying for head units and put mine front and center on the dashboard, sneaking into the dash along the front edge near the glass and then down into the driver's side behind the A pillar.

The stock element in the fin uses an RG6 connector, one for earlier tacos and 2/3 for later tacos. Yours I believe will have a single RG6 in the plastic connection housing/clip. If you're comfortable with coax connections, that would be your splice point - remove the factory connector from the antenna end of the harness, snake the factory coax back through the truck, re-route it to where you want to put the replacement, and then terminate it with a new connector to match your aftermarket/replacement XM module, wherever you decide to put it and whatever type it needs.

Wow, thanks for all of that! Sounds like the easiest thing is going to be just pull the head and plug in a new antenna plug directly and rout it to wherever.
