Well if you were selling Lightforces or Kragens instead of PIAA fog lights I'd hook you up with some dosh for more shaving gear. :p

I forgot to mention too, somedays just won't be your day for a straight shave. Just let it go, pick up your DE or mach 3 and try again another day. Forcing it will result in a shitty shave with lots of cuts. Also, never attempt a straight shave after working your arms or pecs out. Bad things happen.

After a work out your arms can end up shaky, if they are shaky, so is the blade, which will cut you

I actually shave with a straight for multiple reasons, one of which is to develop a steady hand. It has worked well.

Like Krazie said, some days are his off days, you will know with the first stroke of the razor. If it is an off day, use a DE.

In all honesty, it is probably wise to make sure you have time to enjoy the shave, I find that when I enjoy the shave I will do much better.

By the way, Krazie, I ordered some
Mama bears soap, sandalwood/vanilla and a sample puck of lime something (cheap, so I said why not)

I will let y'all know how it is

Cheers mate! I'm curious to hear how they are. Specially that lime.

I think I lucked out with straight shaving from being an EMT. You learn to have a steady hand trying to start Ivs in the back of a moving ambulance. I already had an edge, no pun intended. I need to use my de more often. It's not getting the lovin' it deserves. And after I scored a fat boy for cheap it definitely deserves it.

That's a good amount for that amount of
    Time

I got all my stuff over a period of of like 3 months....the soap was first, then a brush a few days later

The. I found a DE about a month or 2 later ($5 fat boy for the win). By this time my razor collection was at about 6 or 7. The. A few months later I got them honed (I didn't want to ship them). I have a coupe hones now, once I get them lapped, I'll be in business

And Krazie, the 1 once puck of the lime was like 2.50 shipping is what killed me

I will post results when I get it (hopefully this week)

Straight razor came in today :yay:

So, being naturally impatient, I had to give it a go. It was honed before it was sent out so I gave it a good strop, washed my face and lathered up. Best advice that I read that proved VERY true was to take it slow, and when things seem like they aren't going to go well, STOP! Also, stay above the jaw line otherwise you get a lot of blood  I only shaved with the grain on the sides of my face, attempted to cross my jaw line, cut myself pretty damn good and decided to finish up with my safety blade. I've got a lot of technique to work on to get this straight razor shaving down.

In the words of DH, "My face hurts" :D

The best beard is an untouched beard. Let your man out.
Start in October and shave at Easter.

    More greys every year :frown

Someday I'll probably grow it out. It'll grow in thick I'm sure as I seem to have pretty course hair and pretty good coverage. Until then, I like that clean shaven feel and look :D

The blade itself isn't bad, it's all the other crap you need to buy to maintain it.

Blades can very easily climb well over $100 but a basic blade from a reputable company will be less. Check out StraightRazorDesigns.com. You can get a brand new Dovo for around $70. I bought one from StraightRazorPlace.com's classifieds. Mine is over 100 years old and was $70 shipped to me including 3 professional honings. There's a picture of it a couple pages back.

I picked up a strop kit at Whipped Dog for $22 shipped and an extra that was 'cosmetically blemished' for $8. The kit included balsa wood with abrasives for touch ups between stropping, a leather strop, needsfoot oil and a free sample of shave soap.
