    Yep, I've heard of them

I will be ordering a strip or 2 from them this summer as well as a shave bowl (maybe)

I am thinking about looking into a sight unseen deal with a cosmetic defect or something like that

Basically I want a hone razor but no scales angry to turn it into a fixed blade razor

The sight unseen strop that I got from them had a big ugle blemish way up at the top, outside of the usable area. Otherwise, it seemed to be pretty decent and a great deal for $8. I also got the poor man's strop kit and that strop looks really decent (not that I'm a strop expert, just looked like good quality leather).

That is NOT shave ready :p

Try polishing it up and see what you're left with. If it's pitted at the blade edge, you might have some issues. Check out the websites CrazyEngineer mentioned, a lot of members on there offer restoration services or honing services if you get the blade cleaned up yourself. You can also buy new scales and pins if you find that they are shot and the blade is salvagable.

Oh yeah, update on the wedge I bought, it's freaking awesome! I'm getting the hang of using a straight and am taking to the wedge much better than the hollow ground. Still having trouble getting comfortable on the left side of my face and usually have to touch up with my safety razor but I'll keep working at it. No more gaping cuts :yay:

haha yea most definitely NOT shave ready. but yea im going to use the dremel and such to try and polish her up a little. the edge actually doesnt LOOK to pitted or anything.

i mainly liked the fact that its passed down. even if i never use this one, i wanted to clean it up for heirloom sake.

but still for a 80+year old razor it was still hella sharp

Nice! Might just need a good polish, a fresh hone and a good stropping. I'm assuming you were talking about using the polishing wheel on the dremel, right?

Get yourself an old-fashioned safety razor (think Mad Men). The older "cut-throat" razors are out of my skill set and the modern safety razors should be plated in gold for how much they cost.

I got a safety razor that requires you to load the blade and only use the new kind when I need to travel. And I can't remember when I last had to buy new blades.

I bought a brand new Merkur Safety Razor (34C I think) for around $30. I go through blades about once a month give or take (Less now that I'm using a straight).

    This.

My daily shave is multiple passes... WTG and XTG reduction, followed by ATG and finally "buffing" to get the last pesky spots.

Oh BTW... I guess I should mention that this is my shave setup... face and head.

Careful careful careful with the Dremel.
Heat will ruin the temper of the blade.

It'll make it really easy to hone up.
But it won't last more than one stroke.

    Even better.

    Gold Dollar.

Pakistani crap, but it's actually good steel.
It will also get you an immediate threadlock and possibly ban for even mentioning it on SRP.

Seraphim on B&B puts absolutely beautiful edges on them with lapping film.
He PIF'd me one back in January and I used it for a month straight with nothing more than nightly stropping.

It's junk out of the box and takes some work, but the issue at SRP is the owners of the forum are interested in selling $200+ blades and honing services... they do not want to hear that a $5 ($8 with shipping) blade can be made to perform as well as a $200 Dovo.

IMHO, Dovo QC is too spotty for me to recommend them to a newbie. I own three. Two have issues, though only one has issues that impact the shave (warped blade, needs more skill than I have to hone).

Interesting... I'm glad I didn't go that route then. I purchased two old blades, one from SRP, one off Ebay and both have been great and cost the same as a new, bottom of the line Dovo.

One of mine is plated in gold actually...

Take off as much as you feel comfortable with then wipe all the soap off and take off small bits till you get the general style you're after. Just don't try to shave large areas sans soap or you'll hate yourself very very quickly. Otherwise get a double edge razor for the touchup that the straight can't get.

Can't help you much there anymore cause I'm no longer allowed facial hair.

Always good to hear. Sorry I was busy these past two weeks. Getting my fire shit in order.

    They all catch RAD.

Additionally for whoever is going to use the dremel, I highly suggest not doing so. One slip and you'll destroy the edge on that blade and it'll take you forever and a day to try to get it back again. Plus you'll have to grind down and lose a lot of metal to get a proper edge once more.

True, they do all catch it

And ya, a scotch brite pad may work better?

I don't know for sure, I just wouldn't use that dremel
