there are only 2 in the pic that aren't worth working one...on is a POS replaceable blade with the blade rusted in and the other I got for free.

    I've got a 4/8k i just need to lap it...badly, same with a barber's hone that I found.

and by the way, krazie, I was just looking at an older thread about straights that I started....I was laughing at the pictures that I missed. The one taht compared you to the mask

I haven't had time to hone it, I have crap tons of hmwk and I am not at home

When I get the chance, it is getting lapped with wet/dry sand paper

until then there is a guy on campus that does honing, Mainaman on Straightrazorplace.com

he actually has 2 of my razors now for restoration, one with MOP covered tang and a cool frame back. I hope to have them back in a couple weeks

If you straight razor guys were to buy a new blade, where would you go? Serge, you mentioned Ebay and I've been keeping an eye out but an getting outbid on anything that looks halfway decent (I know, patience ). That being said, I know I can get a new Dovo for around $100, any other brands I should be looking at or websites I should check out?

So far I've been looking at Lee's Razors, West Coast Shaving, The Art of Shaving ($$$$), The Art of Manliness (great info on that site BTW) and Fleabay and a few others as they pop up in google searches.

I also ended up buying a Badger brush off Amazon and Jack Black Shaving Cream.

depends how you want to buy, If you are ok buying from forum vendors and paying with paypal, check out Straightrazorplace.com they have a classifieds section and you can get a nice one there for a fair price (from what I have seen) they will most likely also be honed already.

(they have a lot of information for beginners to, I would recommend going there regardless and start reading)

the art of shaving has some nice ones but they will probably need professional honing. Same with most online stores

If you want to get it from a store, I would recommend getting it from here

    http://www.straightrazordesigns.com/ (SRD)

their straights all come honed and ready for shaving (don't trust most places that say "shave ready")

they also have honing services for whenever you need to get it honed again.

they will have everything you need to get started

and good luck, don't get discouraged if your first shave doesn't go well. they get better the more you shave.

    Sounds like me

Only reason I didn't skip the safety was because I couldn't hone

yea i want to spend at least a month or three working with the safety razor before upgrading.

but i have always thought about going to a straight razor.

i think my grandfather has to have one laying around somewhere. he has the honing straps hanging on the porch soooo im assuming those werent just for the knives.

Thanks! I did come across Straight Razor Place in some of my searches, I must have missed their classified section  I figure my first blade should be through a place like SRD so it does actually come honed and ready for use just so my first experience isn't testing my honing skills as well as my amateur straight razor shaving skills at the same time!

Thanks again, I'll check out those sites

Yeah, the non-adjustable straight is just like shaving with a really sharp Mach 3. I expected it to be different I guess. I still need a lot of practice with the technique because the head isn't on a pivot like with the cartridge razors and I'll use the safety blade for a few more months regardless. I figured if I could pick up a straight now to mix in every now and then and get my stropping technique down.

Ebay. Snipe that shit like a 20 year marine.

I have every intention of picking this bad boy up eventually.

I like the spike point razors a lot. You can get really good trimming with your sideburns with them. But you have to be careful cause they can slice you super easy if you're not conscientious about where that end is. 90% of my razors have been off ebay, with 2 bought locally.

is that one with the link to it a new stock? or is it a NOS. either way, that is a pretty razor. My grail right now is a 7 day set, and it will remain that way until I can get one. I know where one is, but it isn't for sale.....crap

I am building one out of some wedge torreys, but it isn't the same
