    Yeah, that's what I thought too, but the article stated:

    While the age of consent in Texas is 17 years, a state law bans sexual relationships between educators and students even if the student is of legal age and the relationship is consensual. She could have faced 20 years in prison if indicted and convicted.

    I don't think a jury would ever convict her unless there were some extremely negligence circumstances in addition to her class on carnal knowledge.
