After almost 18 years and 280K miles later, she's finally needing a new motor.
Should I go re-manufactured or have mine rebuilt?
I live in LA and any advise would be appreciated.

Which motor? 2.4L, 2.7L, or 3.4L, cause of death (need to know if rebuilding is worth it), what you use the vehicle for? All those can help determine what will pay out best.

    Welcome to TW! :)

Hmm, I would rebuild as it sounds like worn out rings or bad valve stem seals.

rebuilding is easy. Just make sure you do NOT re use the factory chain tensioner. Mine just failed after my rebuild.. All is well now

I was following your thread, glad to hear everything turned out fine. Did you come to a conclusion as to whether the 3RZ-FE is an interference or non interference engine?

That comment, as it stands, does not justify either a new motor or even a full rebuild.

I'm not saying one isn't needed.

Just asking about the rest of the diagnostics. There has to be more to the story.............
