Got off the phone with the claim manager. Sent her the pictures and she is going to look into it and see what she can do. She wanted to see if the regional people had gotten involved already, which the dealer said they had. I am not feeling too good about it. I think they are going to back their regional reps. I likely won't hear back until Thursday she said.

I hate to say it .... but you should have lied. I don't like lying, but in cases like this I lie my ass off. Being honest in situations like this just gets you unfairly screwed.

Toyota is really becoming a trashy company.

A dealer gets paid by Toyota if they do warranty work .
Toyota takes the dealers word if it should covered under warranty .
What incentive is there for a dealer to say it is not covered under warranty - there must be more profit to fix it outside of warranty than to take what Toyota pays to do it under warranty .

Yes and no. Warranty fixes are done with a fixed labor / task cost, which is usually less than it would take a mech to do it right, by the SM specs. Basically, they have no time for research and gathering tools. Pretty much have to have it memorized. Not something that you want to be doing on a serious repair on the drivetrain.

OTOH, when doing paid work for customers, they get to flip the equation and charge shop hours. Where, in some case, mechs can book up 16hrs+ in an 8hr day.

So, there is incentive to have the customer pay for marked up parts and labor versus warranty.

I wonder if he could have got away with lying, as far as I am aware these trucks have Data Event Recorders so they could download things like Throttle, Brake, and when 4 Wheel Drive was engaged.

May I suggest an upgrade? Only $2,995 from RCV

Side note: I had a cv boot shred itself 3,000 miles after purchasing my truck the closest dealer wouldn't warranty it.

Only if you get into an accident which deploys the airbags. It's in the beginning of the manual.

Right it is in the Manual, I think they can pull data without you being in an accident. I was just watching a crime solving thing on tv where there was an empty Pontiac Sunfire with bullet holes and blood but no body, they pulled the data and were able to see the girl floored it right before it stopped.

I think they get more data if you got in the accident. Like the data they can see is whatever gets logged into techstream for diagnostic purposes. I guess that's exactly what this is haha.

A CP (customer pay) job is gravy , The techs get paid a substantially higher amount and they also have free range on changing any parts at their discretion without Toyota looking over their shoulder. Warranty work and customer pay work are in two completely different categories. The techs love CP work.

There used to be a guy that was a member on here that was a BMW Tech, he said you would be surprised at all the info your vehicle gives. He took a picture of a screen that had a list for fuel, it had all the dates, times, and grades of gas put in that customers car.

The claim manager straight up told me Toyota doesn't control part or labor mark up, but I did give her the $900 CV, $476 hub and 9 hours of labor I was quoted. At the end of the conversation she asked me to repeat the numbers. So I think she is aware of the dealers motivations.

I'll be honest I skimmed this post.

OP the costs the dealer is giving you for parts and labor are total horse shit. The wheel bearing assembly shouldn't be more than $250 for the hub and everything installed. I know there is a member on the forum that puts them together and sells them, I think he has it for a 3rd gen.

For the CV axle, autozone or advance sells those things for like $120 tops. And its like 3 hours worth of work to swap out the bearing/hub assembly and also the CV axle. If you are mechanically enough capable I would recommend tackling it yourself if the claim gets denied.

Usually if you argue your case well enough Toyota will cover it under a "good faith" claim. Since you are under your 3 year 36k limit you are still in the bumper to bumper warranty window. The powertrain warranty only covers items that are lubricated by oil. So the only way this will be warrantied is if they clear it under the bumper to bumper or as a good faith repair.
Your saving grace is that you haven't put on non stock tires and suspension and shit, cause the dealers love using those arguments to deny claims.

Exactly. It's also like when it takes a tech 30 mins to do a job, but they charge 2 hours of "book labor". Their justification is they're experts and are more efficient at a task with specialized tools and equipment that most people/shops wouldn't have access to. Right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

There has to be privacy laws in place to prevent them from accessing that info .... If there's a fatal accident or crime involved they will of course pursue every avenue to gather evidence. But don't let CSI fool you, they can't perform a DNA sequencing in 10 seconds and cross match that within another 10 seconds to a worldwide database of criminals .... LOLOLOLOL

Read the beginning of the Owners Manual, it even says that your Truck transmits data wirelessly to Toyota without telling you.
