I do kind of recall the handbrake feeling stiff, what would have caused this?

What dealer (or region) are you at in VT?

The dealer knows you are up shit creek without a paddle so far from home, that's why they are charging you a fortune!!

I was avoiding posting the name for now out of fear of retribution (probably not likely), but I will as soon as the truck is out of their hands. It is in southern Vermont

Really, what dealer. If you're getting trouble, there are a few dealerships in VT. My personal dealer is 802 Toyota, and they are great!

Lol another guy who won't own up to his shit. Just admit it, you lie when its convenient to, no need to make excuses and try to morally justify that its ok because you're lying to a business.... thats fucking weak just own it.

You obviously know its wrong or you wouldn't be trying to rationalize it in the first place....

And you don't need to be Jesus Christ to have integrity LOL, I can honestly say I've NEVER lied about anything like this because my integrity is worth more than a few hundred bucks, even a few thousand. As if lying would even get OP what he wants in this case anyways , all it would do is prove you to be a liar and the service adviser will now be guilt free when he denies your claim.... You're MUCH more likely to get a claim done under "good faith" by being honest than you are thinking you'll fool Toyota by lying.

HOLY SHIT!! The dealer put parts in my truck without me telling them to. Now their rep is acting like I am making it all up even though the last message I have from her says she wants to know "what we are doing, and where we are at". They are taking the parts out and she made it seem like they are going to take the loss, but I had to vent/document it here. I am super nervous for the condition my truck is going to be in when I get it. I can't believe they did that I think I might have to get a laywer on speed dial

No authorized signature or verbal authorization? Take the parts off and put my old parts back on or thanks for the free parts and labor!

she is claiming I said 'the parts have to go on anyway' but I asked if they used OEM or Aftermarket based on my authorization and she didn't answer which makes me think she knows she is BSing

This just got good, sorry to hear about your truck and it's complete BS that they won't warranty it.

Sorry it took so long man. The only thing I can tell you from the pictures is it sheared in a place where it shouldn't have. Depends on what the length of engagement of the spline was at the time.

I would go one step further. I would contact Toyota and file a complaint with them. It is BS that they have done work to your truck without clearly receiving permission to do so. By taking that action it really makes me question how ethical and honest they are as a dealership and that is what I would be bringing up to Toyota. Ask Toyota if you can have the truck inspected at another dealer as you do not believe the current dealer is acting in good faith and this recent behavior leads you to question how honest they were with their initial diagnosis of the failure of the CV joint. If nothing else, you should be able to meet a Toyota rep at a dealership to view the damage with them in person so they can explain to you why it isn't covered and you can accurately explain to them exactly what happened from your perspective. I wonder what information they have passed onto Toyota and how accurate that info has been.

Water in the drum. I've frozen my pads to the drum after getting a car wash and not letting the brakes dry out. Getting stuck in snow, then having the truck pulled out and parked... I'm sure there was water in the drums.
