So I got a shell with the tracks included. I believe they are Thule tracks but I think (maybe or maybe not) they accept Yakima or Thule racks.

I'm wondering what the best option for the lowest profile cross bar would be and does anyone want to share what rack they have on their shell?

I'm looking into the Control Towers from Yakima and also the 460 Podium by Thule. I guess I have also looked into the Thule Tracker 2 System but that has been discontinued so I was only looking at used parts for that.

Also, is there a cargo rack I can use without having to buy that stuff? One that will attach straight to the tracks that are bolted onto the shell?

    Whatcha got for me TW?

I would think the Aeroblades could be the lowest overall height.

Remember you don't want to have a super short bar setup, you don't want anything sagging down onto your expensive shell paint.

I have rectangular Thule bars on mine, LMK if you want a measurement. I don't know what they equate to in model number.

Aeroblades do look a little sleeker don't they.

That would be awesome! If you could get me that measurement that would be great.

@DCSBFTMFW what kind of weight do these hold? I currently use Trac Rac for Tacoma, constanlt have multiple kayaks, etc.

Considering a shell, would need racks.

I emailed SnugTop about that when I picked it up and they're rated for 200 lbs.

Worth noting I don't have a reinforced roof model (like a contractor series cap), I believe those are 300-400 lb rated.

My shell is a SnugTop XV (Xtra Vision), these rails were the factory options added when new (I bought it used).

Any ideas about a cargo rack that could attach straight to the tracks?

I had a Yakima basket on my last car, and Yakima rails. It was a nice piece, expandable for length but the extension piece IIRC was like $175, the basket itself was twice that much new.

You can buy them used for under $200 without trying hard, I think I sold mine for $150. There are cheaper baskets on eBay and other companies of course that make good baskets as well. My only complaint with the baskets is that they're pretty open on the bottom, the gaps between the bars are probably 4" or so and it lets small items fall through.

If I did it again, I'd get some expanded metal from Home Depot or the like, some washers, and some self tapping screws and run that like a floor. Would've been a great thing to do for my use, but I sold the car - sold the rack.

Aside from that, the baskets sit pretty tall - I would prefer a super low cross bar setup if I was running a basket on top, but there weren't any available (probably still aren't). I'd love to cut the cross bar clearance in half.

I have the Prinsu toprac on my snugtop. It's a great product, and is very low profile and attaches to the tracks on the topper. There is a thread in 2nd gen trading post section with lots of pictures as well. Prinsudesignstudio.com is his website.
