    That's too darn cool.

I'm going to have a go at it also.

    Thanks!

Was gonna go with the viair 300p, but the 400 auto dropped price on Amazon to just $50 more than the 300, so I ordered it.

That definitely covers the DIY cost to make the 300P automatic.

Other than the 12v / 24v capability of the 400P, a $50 jump seems very reasonable.

Absolutely. It pushes a little more air than the 300 also as the PSI goes up also. It was weird because it was one of those things where the price only went down for a day.

You're really going to like it. I was surprised by the amount of flow compared to other small compressors that I have seen.

Great catch on the price drop. Amazon is getting sneakier these days. At times, sites like camelcamelcamel aren't even much help as luck.

I have a Slime Motosports inflator. Mainly to carry on my bike. I used to use it to seat beads when mounting tires. It did well enough and certainly better than the handpump that I was using before that. LoL!

In between, I was using that scuba tank, but fills, VIPs, and hydros were a bit of a pain, and my fill card ran out. The Viair is certainly easier to carry and a bit slower.

About my only wish at this point is to get some winch harness connectors since I am using it for air checks on the fam's cars.

That's a great idea, then you wouldn't have to pop the hood every time.

    Thanks!

Exactly. I also have a rear winch plate to finish up. So, I am trying to decide where I want the connectors front and rear. Front generally comes with the wiring kits and would only be used for the inflator until I decided what I want to do about a slim bumper.

I'd like to avoid modding the cubbies since they are sealed and working good now. What would be neato is a third receptacle in the hitch connector.

Anyone have any tricks to getting the inflator hose off the gauge if it's really tight? I tried taking the hose off mine to replace with a quick connect, and the spot it screws into broke.IMG_20201009_130710.jpg

    That sucks!

Is there a flat on the gauge fitting? If so, you should be able to wrench on that.

No flat, basically had to just hold the gauge and wrench on the hose fitting..
On the new one they sent me, I tried again with less force as to not break it. It broke free, but still gonna take my time working it back and forth to get it all the way off. I think they used the permanent loctite on the threads.

Ah! I was missing the gist of your post. I thought that you were trying to salvage the gauge itself from the broken body. Sorry about that.

I used to use a lighter or torch to heat things up, but a cheap heat gun works much better. It is surprising how little heat is really needed to soften some stuff, like thread locker.

This guys is a champ, esp when it is usually less than $10:

It takes much longer than a worm drive or oetiker clamp, but it is fun and relaxing. Like whittling wood.

    This is the tool:
    https://www.wirecare.com/category/t...4-3-4-stainless-steel-aluminum-tool-w-wingnut

If you have a lathe, you could whip one out at home pretty easily. There are no critical dimensions on it except for being able to swage the nose into the body. The only thing that you can't see there is the lateral cut in the tip for the wire to rest in.

I can post up the usage instructions if you want?

I bet it would work well. Mine has accidentally held all that the Viair can chooch. 200psi or so?
