for me its not about jobs. illegals cant get insurance. which means when they hit you they dont pay for anything. they dont pay tax's. if they get hurt and go to the hospital who pays for it? the higher the illegal population, the higher the crime rate. thats not racist, just a socio economical fact. jobs are also an issue, but not the only one.

 

Already 4-5 automobile accidents in NC that resulted in deaths of "legal Americans" caused by uninsured drunk illegals. It's a big problem.

 

my buddy got in a wreck in high school with illegals. nobody was hurt but he had to pay for the body work himself since he had minimum coverage

 

You guys should go look at the crime rate in the area that super Joe is in charge of.... murder rate has gone up, along with theft. He is so busy making headlines and chasing illegals, he has forgot to actually protect people. He has some decent ideas, but those ideas are worthless if you are doing nothing to combat crime.

 

i've heard this before but honestly dont know enough about it to chime in. however, if what you're saying is true, then i agree. hunt for illegals but not at the expense of everything else.

Joe's jurisdiction is the entire county. If crime has risen then it falls on the shoulders of DPS and local agencies as well.

These responses are all opinions. So its fair game to say what we want to put into the topic as long as its somewhat civil. Pster, we've chatted before. If I don't agree with everything conservatives say that doesn't make me a liberal. I've worked with illegal Mexicans in the past so my perspective is a bit different than yours maybe.

I've definitely noticed that since the economy got bad, the rhetoric over illegals has gone way up. Its typical in American history for people who've been here longer to go after the freshly arrived immigrants because they are easy targets. In the 19th century it was the polish and Italians. Out in California it was the Chinese who took over panned-out gold mines and made them profitable. In the early 20th century it was the blacks heading to Detroit because people claimed they were stealing their jobs and so forth. Ironic since when the economy goes bad, people lash out at the wrong group of people instead of recognizing that a lot of today's problems stem from those at the top of the economic ladder and not the peons digging up cabbages.

So yeah- I can agree on one level that its not right for illegals to run across the border. That part I agree with. But the talk that's been brewing around it is typical of what Americans do and have done throughout history.

 

I already live in an area pretty heavily fortified with crime. I also can't deny that quite a bit of theft has been occurring over the last few years, and an awful lot of it is from illegal immigrants. Lots and lots of tools, bikes, and trucks are getting stolen. I was actually at the store the other day and saw this younger hispanic guy take off on a new carbon fiber racing bicycle. The owner came out just in time to see the guy going down the street. Its definitely a problem.

 

Bob, respectfully, your analysis (Chinese, Poles, Italians...) is just silly and shallow. You have TOTALLY ignored the complexities and unique social situations that existed in our new, rapidly growing country in the 1800's and early 1900's. This has NOTHING to do with the goodness or sancity or value add of immigrants! It has EVERYTHING to do with whether they enter the country LEGALLY, or ILLEGALLY. And by the way....the Chinese brought heroin to America.

 

I would vote for Joe for ANY office.

As for Illegals: Look at what happened in san francisco, they let an illegal that had been stopped before, KILL a child and his father!
