a fairing is not hard to have made if you don’t like what it comes with.

I got lucky and set mine right. No wind noise.

moved it to play with a mount. Too high. Noise.

moved it lower again. Some gap. No more noise again.

you either need more carrying ability or you don’t. That dictates rack necessity.

Not to mention sound deadening the cab for multiple reasons besides that.

I need it just not all the time so it’s not up there all the time. The fairing issue was only one of the factors and truth to tell if I wanted it badly enough I’d solve that myself but it’s not a simple thing to shape which is probably why almost every rack does it the easy way.

Ive seen some people with like a rhino rack or a more just squared off rectangle flat rack make a fairing out of plexy or something similar to create a bend in it. Just and idea to toss out if you decide to make your own.

I was looking at getting an xtrusion overland bed rack and a Sherpa Grand Teton cab rack. I would ideally like them to sit flush. Can anyone with a Grand Teton measure the height of their cab rack from the top of the front bed rail to the top of the cab rack?

it’s a game of luck. Maybe space it up or cut it down. My dissent bed rack seems to be flush on top with my Sherpa grand Teton.

Xtrusion lets you order a custom height. I'm trying to figure out the height before I order. I called Sherpa and they said the height is 23"-23.5" and I just wanted to confirm with anyone else who owns the rack.

I would but 2nd gen here so may not be the same. Maybe someone else has.
And have KBvoodoo side bed rail caps which are thin and flat so probably lower than factory plastic.

Ok, so I'm kind of new to this. I'm looking at setting up my 3rd gen tacoma with it's sherpa roof rack. I'm just trying to get some guidance in how to mount things correctly. And chose good quality gear. Now I wanna add lights. A light bar, side lights. A pelican or roam case for storage. Particularly a long one. Grab handles, and a solar panel to power a refrigerator. A yard help would be greatly appreciated!

How’s the wind noise on this? Stuck between this and the uptop alpha. Heard and read multiple times up top is pretty quiet. I do love the rubber gasket on the Sherpa though. I could go either way.

I would say it’s comparable to my prinsu. You can hear both. But not insane

I haven't mine installed yet. I'm willing to deal with a little wind noise. I just don't wanna deal with water leaking

Is using silicone required? Looking at the install doesn't seem so. Really would like to get a roof rack but don't like the idea of having to apply silicone or risk leaks.

So I end up and went with some Marine grade silicone. So far, their haven't been any leaks. It's been raining for the past few days. It's not required, but I'd use it anyway.

I’ve run Sherpa racks on my tacomas since they started the business. Never used silicon and never had a leak

I bought their rack because of their design. But as extra precaution. I used a marine grade sealant anyway. I have no intentions of ever removing the rack. And I wanted to be extra cautious about preventing leaks. It doesn't hurt to take extra measures. Even if it's not necessary..
