Great thread. Loving the Grand Teton and thinking that is the way I want to go for my cab. Most likely paired with tracks and yakima bars on the camper shell.

Finally got my grand Teton rack installed & very happy with it so far. Customer service at Sherpa is top notch, was missing a part & they had it at my door step 2 days after talking to them Good quality, very sturdy, and haven’t noticed any excess roof noise either!

How is the install? I was pretty set on prinsu but several people have recommended this over it.

Super easy install. Admittedly I have done it a few times, but I can have a rack fully installed with all crossbars in under an hour

So from watching a lot of YouTube videos most guys get a prinsu. It seems the weather stripping install is what steers people away. Would you say the majority of accessory/add one can also be used onto this Sherpa?

install is easy, glad you did not get a prinsu. Sherpa's are built very well. prinsu's are limp and flimsy like your 90 year old grandpa.

Very easy install! Longest part for me was getting the bars even & putting the weatherstrip pieces back in. With 2 people it will go really fast!

Yeah, I’d think pretty much everything would fit for the most partor at least with some slight modifications. The hole layout is different on the side rails, so that might limit where you can mount on them. Believe the 1x2 bars are exactly the same tho

When I went to Wyoming for the first time and saw the Grand Tetons, it was awe inspiring. Even better is when a local told me that it was named that by French Canadian trappers, who thought it looked like big tits and called it that. Epic that the name stuck all these years.

I'm a fan of big ole sweater kittens, so why not run it on my rig? :D

The sherpa racks have handles built into the side plates so you wouldn’t really need those. Not sure how the prinsu mounts exactly with the weather stripping, but it’s really fast and easy to cut the weather stripping for the sherpa rack with a pair of side cutters or something similar

The prinsu you take the weather stripping off. Line up the holes and have to puncture holes their the weather stripping and the steel liner (or whatever metal it is) and apply silicone. So with the sherpa you still have to cut there weather stripping?

The factory weather stripping needs to be cut to allow the sherpa mounting feet to sit down in the gutter and for access to the factory mounting holes

But no silicone is needed. The rubber mounting feet are fully sealed

To achieve perfect fitment, I'm thinking the following steps:

    1. Remove the entire weather stripping piece
    2. Test fit the mounting feet and use masking tape to mark where the feet sit
    3. Reinstall the weather stripping and mark exactly where the feet are going to be
    4. Cut exactly according to measurement made in step 3
    5. Install the cut weather stripping pieces into the marked spaces
    6. Install the rack and the feet should go right in
    Would you agree?

I’ve been doing some research and it seems the Sherpa is a upgrade over the prinsu. I always assumed that the prinsu was the “gold standard” because so many people use it and compare it to others.

any idea if this will fit on the Sherpa? I do kind of like the idea that you can add color matched panels.

The cross bars from the Sherpa and the Prinsu racks are slightly different. If you look at the websites you"ll see the the Prinsu crossbars have a slot to drop in a t nut vs teh ones Sherpa use are slid in t nuts. But most accessories should work between the two.

This is only a guess as I'm a prospective buyer doing research not someone owning or representing Uptop, Sherpa, or Prinsu. I can't imagine the additional armor package from uptop that is designed for the Prinsu will fit the Sherpa. If you are comfortable drilling holes in the Sherpa rack you can probably make them fit. Prinsu and Sherpa using the exact same pattern on the side panels seems unlikely (especially since the handle system seems different). You might get a couple holes that line up by happenstance but I think you'd be left shifting the whole armor piece forward or back to try and drill the most structurally sound places. I'd want to see the uptop armor plate line up with the sherpa sides live and in person before I'd believe it works. I'm a skeptic on this one because it wasn't designed this fit/pattern in mind.

If you get bold let us know.

I'm honestly very confused by this. Uptop makes their own racks why would they make a product for a competitors rack? And the picture isn't even of a current model Prinsu for a Tacoma at least. I would save your money and not get these. You can always add some color to your rack with some wrap or something. I don't see how this would work on a Grand Teton.
EDIT: I see now it goes outside the Prinsu Rack. I guess it could work for a Sherpa but It is not necessary at all. Sherpa use really thick and strong side panels.
