Hello, 2016 Taco 5 speed. I want to remove the leatherette shift boot. I can undo some clips on the sides, but not the corners. Any tips or tricks? Thanks

Haven't tried taking it off yet. Are you planning on replacing it with something else?

I have a different knob I want to use, and the new knob won't hold the boot up anyway....
I took the boot off, easily, from my 2013, and painted the inside space flat black. It made for nice additional storage for things, although it did get a little hot.
I personally don't like boots on trucks, I prefer the long stick look, with the rubber accordion boot at the base.
I'm old school, I started out with a 77 Hi Lux, and then bought a 79 4WD Hi Lux in April of 79.
When they came out, they were the coolest thing on wheels, I had to have one. Had some fun college years in that one.

This is how far I got doing my shift knob. Didn't remove the boot, but this may help. The entire console just pops up and lifts off. This should give enough room to see how the boot attaches to the console. Plastic circular clip is zip tied from underneath

    Kevin,
Wow, just pop off the whole top? Nice. Does it separate from the rear storage area? Can it be completely removed?

It encompasses the front face of the center console. I believe it lifts up and out as well. If you take the whole thing out (I didn't need to) post some pics for future reference!

I just don't want to force/break anything plastic.

It came off with a little upward pressure and wiggling, all is well.
Then the boot came off easy, the whole top won't come off without undoing the brake boot, which I have no need to do.
Old school round shift knob will be installed.
I'm painting the inside over the hump flat black and will reinstall, w/o boot. It makes for a nice little storage area.
The trim ring has 6 screws on the underside. Pics when done.

    Reminds me of the 84 4x4 5spd I had.

Now, to trim it out on the inside...I just thinks boots are for race cars, not trucks.
