shift indiator in dash no ruise

new to forum so thanks in advance.
i have an 08 tacoma 4x4 v6 base model. gear indicator in dash is intermittent. when drive lite fails cruise drops out. problem is worse in cold temps. i can toggle shifter between drive and nuetral and light will flash. on cool or cold days it seldom works at all.
I am a retired heavy trk tech so i now my way around a toll box. having said that be
gentle im an old man.
does this trk have a seletor switch at shifter or are we talking neutral switch in transmission or some other device that I am unaware of. any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

Most likely the Transmission Range / Park/Neutral position switch on the right side of the transmission, they are pretty bad about getting corroded especially in areas with high salt exposure.
They can be a real pain to change because it's and aluminum switch on a steel shaft and they corrode together.
