Ok I will take a picture later of the ring that connects the shroud to the knob. The knob is easy but the ring is a Pita

So all you have to do to remove the knob on the '16 is push straight down on the chrome ring which is a plastic adaptor and it will disconnect allowing you to spin off the knob.
The shroud or boot is tucked in and secured by a zap strap from the underside of the console. To cut the zap strap and remove the adaptor you would have to remove the console.
There are a couple of threads explaining how it comes out but I didn't go that route, I just cut the boot off the adaptor. So now I can't go back but I guess I don't care. If you want the option of restoring it you would have to lift the console and snip the zapper. I you cut the boot make sure to cut as close as you can around the adaptor so you have enough material left over.
After you get the adaptor off either way, you can gather the boot material around the stem and wrap with electrical tape. The new knob has a generous amount of open bore on the bottom that hides the tape job.
Hope that helps! I'm happy I took the plunge with this one
