I recently bought a tacoma and noticed it doesnt really cruise at the speed limit? If that makes sense?
It seems when i accelerate to 35 or 65 as soon as i let off the brake it almost downshifts and loses speed quickly. I was wondering if it was something all tacomas did or was i having an issue?
Its a 2010 dclb with the 4.0 auto

The auto tranny mimics a manual, in that it doesnt "Coast" like autos of the past, or other manufacture auto trannys.

This, its engine braking. The computer also "learns" driving habits. You tap the brake, or brake at all, it thinks you want to slow down. So it tries to help you so to speak. Works great for me, with all the hills around here.

thanks for all the relplys. I had never driven a car that didnt coast on its own. I was actually starting to get used to it and it worked to my advantage in the morning traffic but i just wanted to check it was a normal thing.

Most mordern vehicles have adaptive trannys that "learn" the users inputs. It will learn your driving style over time. When to shift, how long to stay in gear, engine brake, etc. etc.

    Stock for now.
and also like modern cars, you use more gas when putting into neutral compared to leaving it in gear when stopping or braking.

many cars have fuel-cutoff when decelerating until a pre-determined speed. putting it into neutral early will use more just to keep the motor from stalling.

Good thread, I had the same question. After getting a new muffler the downshift around 35mph became super apparent.
